Mr. Chris Butler of Butler Marine visiting students in our program. He is the owner of Butler Marine in Charleston and Beaufort SC and is a Yamaha Best in Class Dealer. He came up and spoke to students about how the marine industry works and his dealerships expectations for technicians. His partnership, along with many other marine dealerships, has been a great asset in the life of our program here at HGTC. At Butler Marine, their motto is “Pride in Service” and we take great pride in growing marine technicians!

Spring Semester is rolling along! In the spring we focus on several rigging set ups including this slick 704 with analog/multi-function gauge set-up. These consoles were donated by MI Tide Boats LLC to help students learn rigging in our program. These consoles had no holes in them. The students cut hatches, gauge holes, control box, key-switch, and rigged a nfb steering system! Next week we will install 24 and 36 volt batteries for trolling motors in these consoles and practice making our wiring and rigging pretty! We teach it like your in the industry!

It was great to have the marine technology program at Hannah Pamplico High School in our labs at HGTC this morning! This new program is an up and coming high school marine program in Florence county and they are helping promote marine technician training in our state. They were at our facilities practicing for the SC marine skills USA competition in Greenville SC later this spring. We see a bright future with these high school marine technicians! It was great to have a good group! Not to forget the Top 10 Bellwether Finalist that was awarded to our Outboard Marine Technology Program earlier this week recognizing HGTC as top 10 Technical college in the nation!
