Another Coastal Carolina University faculty members has received Fulbright U.S. Scholar Awards for the 2026-27 academic year to teach abroad, expanding CCU’s reach to Asia and Africa. Fulbright provides opportunities for exceptional Americans and participants from 160 countries and locations to study, teach, and conduct research abroad.
Deepak Basyal, Ph.D., associate professor of mathematics, will teach mathematics in Nepal.
His project, Integrating Culture, Inquiry, Technology, and Collaboration in Nepali Classroom, focuses on teaching culturally relevant mathematics and preparing teacher candidates to engage K–12 students through high‑demand, open‑ended problems supported by technology.
"I am excited to pursue my Fulbright project in Nepal," said Basyal. "In the era of generative AI, such approaches are even more critical for fostering students’ perseverance, engagement, and creativity. I look forward to learning from educators in Nepal and bringing these global perspectives to my teaching and academic community."
Coastal Carolina University has a rich Fulbright legacy, with more than 20 Fulbright scholars on the faculty. In addition, the institution was named a Top Producing institution of Fulbright U.S. Students in 2024-25.
