Hendrix student Zach Steed ’23 has a pretty cool answer to the question, “How’d you spend your pandemic summer?” He worked with mentors at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) on Cyberinfrastructure (CI) Research for Social Change, a research experience for undergrads through UT Austin. In addition to developing Python script, Zach analyzed Twitter data surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic to find more effective ways to uncover bots and fake accounts that were spreading false and potentially dangerous information. And he's been selected to return to the program as a mentor in summer 2021!
“Despite working with people and machines 600 miles away, I was still able to complete fulfilling research and make lifelong connections,” he said. “It was amazing to be able to apply what I had learned at Hendrix to research that reached such a broad audience.”
