HCS Status Update for Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024:
According to the most current weather forecast, the most intense portion of today’s storm should impact Horry County between 5:00 and 8:00 PM, and be off the coast by 10:00 PM. Once the storm has passed, employees from the District’s Maintenance and Transportation Departments will conduct inspections of schools, school access roads, and bus routes around the county. Consequently, in an abundance of caution, Horry County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, for students and all employees.

As a reminder, final examinations for HCS high school students are scheduled for Thursday, January 11 - Friday, January 12, 2024. Additionally, Friday, January 12, 2024, is scheduled as an early dismissal day for students.

HCS has closed for the day and is on e-Learning. Conway Daycare is closed for the safety of staff and families.

As 2023 draws to a close and we are hopefully all joining family and friends to celebrate the holidays and one another, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what the Center Family has become.

We have chosen a route of smaller class sizes with lower ratios this year and have an exceptional group of dedicated individuals that surround the children each day with love in their hearts. We are more focused on the social-emotional needs of each other, the families we serve, and most importantly, each individual child.

The attention paid by each and every staff member to the needs of the “center community” astounds me every day. Their flexibility, respect and availability to one another creates a truly unique and dynamic learning environment for your children. I am grateful to be a witness to this.

Your trust in the center to provide the highest quality care to your children is a key component to our success.

Just a moment of expression and reflection at the start of the school year...

The ability to watch children grow up at our Child Development Center with all of the many members of the Conway Daycare family is a joyous prospect. With all of the children, families, teachers, interns, therapists, aides, advocates and the State and Local resources (and so many others in our "village") we strive to provide high quality care.

Over the past 11 years at Conway Daycare, many have supported my vision and the mission to create a warm and loving learning environment with teaching that starts in the heart, for each of the children.

Many changes have been tolerated and then accepted and embraced (constant growth, development and refinement to create a superior program) and parents have been supportive and devoted to the staff- making them feel appreciated and valued, and in turn empowering them to excell in their chosen profession of building the future. We strive to enhance the lives of each child that is in our care, and I believe we have been successful .

With a mix of pride and melancholy we now share in watching as many step towards the next phase of their lives with their entry into public school education. We are fortunate to have been a part of the early childhood care for your children and wish them all the best in future endeavors! We hope that future role models can live a lifestyle of Conscious Discipline to continue enhancing and expanding their knowledge and skills ... and respect their individuality. It has been an honor and privilege to get to know all of their fine minds and beautiful spirits. Thank you.

The teachers and I are excited about the new spaces, improvements, support, skills and learning materials afforded to the center through our affiliation with both Horry County First Steps and SC 4K First Steps, as well as Advocates for Better Childcare (ABC) and the Inclusion Collaborative and Be Well Care Well.

We have finally completed all of the assessments of the environment. Teachers have put tremendous efforts into creating a space to best serve your children's needs, provide a safe and healthy environment, and support their growth and development. We are very excited to welcome all transitioning children, new and old, into their classrooms.

The staff and I are confident that all of the lives we touch will benefit from what we have to offer and help us continue to grow and achieve our vision to help create a kind, intelligent, conscientious, independent next generation.
