A proud moment for our family.

My Sifu has been inducted into the Canada Wushu Hall of Fame and awarded the rank of Duan Wei VIII.

This is a tremendous accomplishment and a testament to the decades of dedication, discipline, and preservation he has given to the martial arts.

Though I wish I could have been there in person to witness this moment beside him, I was with him in spirit and in heart.

To see one’s teacher receive the recognition he has long earned is a source of great pride.

This honor is not his alone, but one that reflects upon the entire Moy Yat Moy Daat family and the legacy we continue to uphold.

Congratulations, Sifu.
Your work, your sacrifice, and your standard continue to inspire those of us privileged enough to walk this path under your guidance.

A great day for our family.
A great day for the lineage.

Kung fu and resistance training are not opposites. The idea that martial artists should avoid strength training comes from confusing modern equipment with timeless principles.

Long before gyms existed, kung fu practitioners were already training strength. They lifted stones, carried weighted jars, trained with heavy weapons, held deep stances for long periods, and performed conditioning drills designed to build force, endurance, and structural power. These were forms of resistance training. The tools were different, but the purpose was the same.

Combat requires the ability to produce force. Every punch, kick, pull, or structural exchange depends on strength expressed through coordination. Technique organizes movement, but strength provides the capacity behind it. Power is simply force applied with speed, and without strength there is a limit to how much power technique can express.

The argument that resistance training creates stiffness misunderstands the issue. Stiffness does not come from strength itself, but from training strength without mobility, relaxation, and coordination. Traditional kung fu always balanced tension with release. Strength without relaxation becomes rigidity, but relaxation without strength becomes weakness.

Modern resistance training is not a rejection of tradition. It is a modern tool serving an ancient goal. A barbell is simply today’s version of the stone lock. When strength training supports structure, movement, and control, it does not take away from kung fu. It allows kung fu to be expressed more fully.

The tools evolve. The principles remain.
