Something to remember!!
Did you know that a 3-year old (top left image) and a 6-year old (top right image) have significantly different skeletal structure in their hands?! Notice the bones in the wrist of the 3-year old -- many of them are still mostly cartilage! Look at all the spaces in between the bones where muscles and tendons will change through the years. Even the difference between a 6-year old and a 14-year old (lower right) is huge!
Preschoolers have SO much development to do before they can write the way school-aged children or adults can!
Please do NOT stress if your preschooler does not want to write or draw. Some love it and some don't.
While they are growing, strengthen those little bones and muscles! Here are some great pre-writing, muscle-strengthening activities:
* painting, drawing, coloring
* tearing and cutting
* poking holes in things (try toothpicks and paper!)
* digging in dirt
* building with LEGOS, marble runs, or other blocks
* beading (try beads, cut straws, or even bobbins!)
* squeezing (try stress balls, squeezing water in a sponge, or using a pipette)
* picking up and throwing balls (use different sizes!)
* playing with toys (watch what their little fingers do when they pick up and move little cars, marbles, action figures, etc!)
These all strengthen and help develop little hands, muscles, and bones. When they are physically ready to write, it will be so much easier than if they were pushed when they didn't want to and weren't ready!
We all need to educate ourselves. It’s okay to seek assistance if you see your child struggling in any of these areas. It could be keeping your child from reaching their full potential.

Teaching Tidbit from Tutor Station:
Helping a struggling, reluctant, or beginning reader at home can be challenging but here are some tidbits to help you guide them.
Think of it as a young-one learning to play the piano. The notes are the letters; the chords are the words. If they practice ALONE with no one to help them correct mistakes - they will continually practice making mistakes and comprehension will be lost.
PLEASE have a child read TO YOU (as you follow along with them in their story, book, etc.). In this way, you will notice common errors and mistakes in their reading and you can guide them correctly.
If they come to a word they don't know or is saying incorrectly - have them "decode" the word by reproducing the sounds in the word slowly. If they are still having trouble, tell them the word but have them see how the word is formed with the letter sounds put together.
Children need to read 20 minutes a day WITH an adult! In practicing (like the piano) daily, the student will grow in their reading ability.
Please don't send them to their room to read alone or just listen to them while you are doing something else - you will never know if they are reading correctly!
It also gives you 20 minutes with your child - which is of great quality!!!
Break it up if 20 minutes is too much - 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there is of more value than no minutes anywhere!!
Have fun reading TOGETHER!! :)
We will be closed the week of Aug. 10-14 as parents, students, & teachers start school remotely! We open Aug. 17 for our Fall & Spring Schedule! Sessions being booked now.
Kiddos need to learn to do some things on their own anyway. Helps to build muscles in the fingers and hands - these fine motor skills are crucial for writing, handwriting, coloring, etc.
WOW! Math is getting hard at Tutor Station!!! Lol!
(Actually a math problem for a Sr Math Major at SHSU who tutors periodically for high school and college algebra and chemistry!).
So important to remember -
Wishing everyone a wonderful Fourth of July!!
How will you spend the 1st Day of Summer? It’s also the Longest Day of the Year!!

Tutor Station Safety Protocol
We are committed to the safety & well-being of all tutors and students. In order to keep everyone safe and protected, the following will be established at Tutor Station:
1. Tutors will wear masks. Student masks are optional according to parental preferences.
2. Tutor Station will continue to clean, disinfect, and sanitize our facilities daily.
3. Tutoring stations will be disinfected between students. This includes any supplies used such as manipulatives.
4. Tissues & Hand sanitizers are available at each station.
5. As per our policies, if your child is running a fever or sick, please call asap to reschedule your session. (copy attached)
6. Careful consideration will be given to social distancing between multiple students present at the same time.
How much do you spend on a haircut/style at a salon? Pedicure & Manicure? Dinner for a family of 4 at your favorite restaurant?
Now. . . . even though we enjoy those periodically - they are only here for a limited time. Your hair grows out, your nails & toenails need grooming again, and the dinner fills you up until it's time to eat again.
But a Tutoring Session for your child has unlimited potential that will help them in their understanding of key concepts and skills needed to learn and progress academically - for them to gain the knowledge and confidence in themselves that they "Can Do IT!!"
How much is that worth to you? Call now and schedule 1 on 1 tutoring for your child (or grandchild) this summer.
