Highlights from Ford Elementary, Conroe ISD! 🌟
Loved seeing Ford Elementary in action as students practiced essential cafeteria routines by entering, sitting, and exiting smoothly along with their schoolwide attention signal.
Staff did a fantastic job utilizing SOAR Bucks, a student reinforcement system tied directly to their schoolwide Guidelines for Success, to encourage positive behavior.
What an incredible example of proactive culture-building! πŸ‘πŸ“š

Clear expectations create positive learning environments! πŸ’‘

Teaching daily routines and procedures helps set students up for success throughout the school year. Successful teachers build strong classroom habits by:

β€’ Identifying clear steps for daily classroom activities

β€’ Defining expectations for student behavior

β€’ Modeling, practicing, and providing positive and corrective feedback

When expectations are explicit and practiced regularly, students feel confident, capable, and ready to learn. πŸŽ’βœ¨

What’s an attention signal? πŸ“’πŸ‘€

An effective attention signal helps set the tone for structured, focused learning in any setting. To be most effective, a great attention signal:
β€’ Combines both auditory (you say something) & visual components (you do something, like raise your hand)
β€’ Can be given from ANY location in the room
β€’ Takes no more than 5 seconds to gain all students' attention

The attention signal is the FIRST thing to teach your class on the first day. Establishing clear expectations early builds a positive classroom environment where every student is ready to learn!

Kick off the school year with clear expectations, routine, and strong relationships! 🍎✨

The first three days of school set the tone for the entire year. Before diving deep into academics, focus on establishing a predictable, supportive environment where students feel safe & ready to learn.

Here are the Top Priorities for Days 1–3:

πŸ“ Establish Rules & Respect Agreements

Teach, practice & post rules: Keep them clear, positive, and visible to everyone.

Establish class respect agreements: Co-create expectations with students so they take ownership of their classroom community.

πŸ“ Master Routines & Expectations

Teach & practice attention signal: Pick a clear visual and auditory signal and practice until it becomes second nature.

Teach & practice voice levels: Define what voice level 0 silent, 1 whisper, 2 partner talk, and 3 presentation voice levels sound like.

Teach & practice transition expectations: Minimize lost instructional time by rehearsing how to move smoothly between activities.

Teach & practice schoolwide expectations: Connect classroom behavior to shared common area expectations (hallways, cafeteria, recess).

πŸ“ Create Predictability

Discuss & post daily schedule: Display a visual timeline so students know what to expect and feel secure throughout the day.

πŸ’‘ Pro Tip for Educators: TEACH, don't just tell: model and practice! Re-teaching expectations upfront saves weeks of management time later.

From student to colleague, these Highlanders show what it means to stay connected to the school community that helped shape them. When students feel known, valued, & connected, those relationships can carry far beyond graduation. β€οΈπŸ’š
