In this episode, we are joined by Tricia Skyles, a senior educational consultant with Safe & Civil Schools. After being a classroom teacher, Tricia served as an Instructional Coach with Dr. Jim Knight. Through her initial work with coaching, she assisted teachers in implementing CHAMPS classroom management. After moving into the role of Behavior Coach, she began to work extensively with the Safe & Civil Schools library of resources. Tricia now works with Safe & Civil Schools to provide training, coaching, and consultation with district and campus leaders, classroom teachers, and paraprofessionals.
We had the opportunity to talk about her personal journey to become a leading expert in classroom management & her view on the current state of education.

It's classroom packing time. As you begin to box up your goods, it's a great time to pare down so you're ready to go in August. 📦 💡
Is there anything you’re holding on to that you could reduce? Is it available digitally? Out of adoption? Don’t you have the updated version?
Our teammate, Anna, packed and unpacked bulk amounts of the long sentence strips for three classroom moves and never needed them. Don't be like Anna. 😂 ❤️
Routines build safety through predictability & consistency. Especially in these final days of school, any familiar classroom routines you can offer students will help keep their sense of felt safety intact. ❤️ 🌱
For the first time ever, the Student Support Services team is offering a Summer Behavior Series. These three training sessions are designed to all work cohesively with each other to support positive behaviors in the classroom.
We hope to see you there! ❤️🌱
Mister Rogers spoke the truth. ❤️🌱
The way this lady made us laugh (!!!) and think and question and learn…❤️🌱
We were so grateful for a day spent with campus-based behavior coaches & PBIS Liaisons to deepen our coaching CHAMPS practices from the ultimate classroom management expert herself, Tricia Skyles from Safe & Civil Schools.
This week, our team has the opportunity to meet with the incredible Tricia Skyles from Safe & Civil Schools to have deep discussions, training, coaching, and consultation. We’re SO excited to see where this work is headed. ❤️🌱
Dropping a magical Monday message this afternoon.
The *basics* are pretty simple: The most effective classroom management tool lies in the power of our student interactions. 🪄
Let's make it a wonderful week!
Relationships matter in the work we do. Teachers are there to believe in students even when they don't believe in themselves. 💚🌱
These Snyder Stallions are cashing in for awesome behavior at their school store. This school wide incentive is aligned to their Guidelines for Success & is keeping students motivated and excited! ❤️ 💙
Every classroom has a daily flow of events students come to expect & rely on. We know routines provide an important sense of security for children and a predictable rhythm to their school day.
When routines change, students may feel excited, anxious, or downright out of control. This is a busy time of year with many fun special events and activities.
With this, it may feel like your normal routines begin to slip and soon you might find yourself skipping the normal morning meeting, running out of time for the end-of-day read aloud, or rushing through math in favor of a longer writing project.
Though these exciting events will inevitably impact daily routines, we *can* minimize negative side effects. First, stick to your normal schedule as much as possible, even if the activities within a part of the day look different. This means that you follow the normal blocks of time that made up a standard school day throughout the year. Second, the more we can prepare students in advance, the better. Posting your daily agendas and schedules so students know what to expect for the day is especially important throughout the remainder of the school year. ❤️🌱
The school days are dwindling, and it may feel like we've given all we have and there's simply not much left. But if we send the message that learning is over and summer break is already here, we'll spend the last couple weeks of school battling behavior rather than enjoying the time we have together.
It's a nice opportunity to remind ourselves to continue to model the behaviors we expect and be the set point of our classrooms. Remember, we can't control student behavior, but we *can* control the variables that impact it. ❤️🌱
As the year winds down, it's a great opportunity to start thinking of fresh ideas to put in place for next year. If classroom management is an area you'd like to grow, we'd love to have you join a three-part series we're offering this summer. ❤️🌱
Be sure to register in Eduphoria soon, as spots are filling up quickly!

As Russel Barkley famously said, “The children who need love the most will always ask for it in the most unloving of ways.”
It’s been a rainy & stressful week for many. We’re thinking of those facing flooding & challenges from the storm. ⛈️ 💙
Due to today's heavy rains and tomorrow's unpredictable forecast and conditions, Conroe ISD campuses will be closed on Friday, May 3.
Ms. Sydney Niemic, 4th grade teacher at
Patterson Elementary, Conroe ISD, provided a menu of inspiring messages for students as they entered for the day. Her phrase, “Take what you need” facilitated self reflection and even a bit of self-care. ❤️🌱
