Tier 1 Best Practices in Action at VMI! 🦅❤️💙

Our teachers are starting the year with intention by building Respect Agreements WITH students, explicitly modeling expectations, and reinforcing what success looks and sounds like throughout the school day.

We know strong classrooms don’t happen by accident. When expectations are taught, modeled, practiced, and reinforced, students know exactly what they need to do to be successful. These first days are about more than routine. We’re building the foundation for a year of learning, belonging, and excellence.

Built on Legacy. Driven by Excellence. 🏁🦅

🚗🦅 Eagle families, it’s almost GO TIME!

Car rider may test our patience the first few days, but I promise we WILL get faster! 😂 Take a minute to watch our car rider video so you know the flow before you arrive.

And when we get to that merge… take turns, give a little grace, and play nice with each other. 😉 We’re all on the same team with the same goal: getting our Eagles home safely! 💙🦅

See you in the car rider line! 🏁

We are so excited to see our Eagles back on campus for the 26-27 school year.

Can families walk their Eagle to class on the first day?
YES! All Eagle families are welcome to es**rt their student to their classroom on the first day of school which is on August 12.Our doors will open at our normal time of 7:30 a.m. Families may walk in with their student and help us celebrate this very special first day at Veterans Memorial Intermediate! At 8:20 a.m., we will release all parents and students to walk from the cafeteria to their assigned homeroom class. Parents will say goodbye to their children at the classroom door entrance. We will have plenty of staff to help guide parents to and from the homeroom class.

What do I do if my student’s transportation changes?
Any daily transportation changes must be communicated to the campus by 3:15 p.m.
We are working to establish a standard email address specifically for transportation changes. Until that email address is finalized, please call our front office at 936-709-2400 to communicate any changes.
For the safety of every Eagle, please do not rely on a message sent only to your child’s teacher for a same day transportation change.

What if we have a co-parenting or custody arrangement?
If documentation regarding custody, guardianship, or access to your child’s records is not already on file with Conroe ISD, please stop by the Veterans Memorial Intermediate front office. Our team will be happy to assist you and make sure we have the appropriate documentation on file.

What are the earliest drop off and latest pick up times?
Earliest drop off: 7:30am (Students should not be left unattended outside before the campus opens at 7:30am.)
Latest pick up: 4:30pm

Can someone different pick up my student?
They can, but they have to have a Veterans Memorial Intermediate car rider tag. Any adult picking up a student who doesn’t have a Veterans Memorial Intermediate car rider tag will be asked to visit the front office so we can verify in our system that they have permission to pick up that student.

We know there are many moving parts and we appreciate your patience as we make sure the information we provide is accurate, safe, and clear. Our goal is to communicate with you every step of the way so that our Eagles and their families feel confident and ready for Wednesday!

Kick off the school year with clear expectations, routine, and strong relationships! 🍎✨

The first three days of school set the tone for the entire year. Before diving deep into academics, focus on establishing a predictable, supportive environment where students feel safe & ready to learn.

Here are the Top Priorities for Days 1–3:

📍 Establish Rules & Respect Agreements

Teach, practice & post rules: Keep them clear, positive, and visible to everyone.

Establish class respect agreements: Co-create expectations with students so they take ownership of their classroom community.

📍 Master Routines & Expectations

Teach & practice attention signal: Pick a clear visual and auditory signal and practice until it becomes second nature.

Teach & practice voice levels: Define what voice level 0 silent, 1 whisper, 2 partner talk, and 3 presentation voice levels sound like.

Teach & practice transition expectations: Minimize lost instructional time by rehearsing how to move smoothly between activities.

Teach & practice schoolwide expectations: Connect classroom behavior to shared common area expectations (hallways, cafeteria, recess).

📍 Create Predictability

Discuss & post daily schedule: Display a visual timeline so students know what to expect and feel secure throughout the day.

💡 Pro Tip for Educators: TEACH, don't just tell: model and practice! Re-teaching expectations upfront saves weeks of management time later.
