• Let Them •
What would happen if you, instead of saying “no don’t touch that” let your child touch the egg on the counter and even go one step further to crack it and then watch it turn from clear to white when heated and follow through in getting the answers to every curious question their brain can come up with? 🥚 🍳 🐓
We KILL almost all curiosity in kids by middle school, with so many “no’s” and “don’t touch that’s” and memorized answers given just to get work done and over with and hours upon hours in seats with no freedom to ask questions or explore questions.
Kids popping into classes just because they are curious is a regular thing at Legacy Oaks Academy. We leave our classroom doors open for this reason.
Last week I had a student sit in on anatomy because she was curious about muscles 💪🏻. In my health science several kids joined in to listen to our guest personal trainer speak. Our baking class is full of extras on the regular and enrollment in many classes will end up doubling with all the kids who “visited” and decided to stay.
I say on as many occasions as possible…Let Them….then sit back and watch the magic happen. 💚🌱✨
Economics
📈📊💸

In each class we will watch the news and discuss the concepts we are learning in the context of current events. In addition to the news and discussing the homework, in class we will have activities to explore the content of Exploring Economics by Ray Notgrass. For homework each week students will read a chapter of Money, Greed, and God, by Jay Richards, which is a short, easy to read, and excellent introduction to sound thinking in macroeconomics and they will answer questions to demonstrate comprehension of the reading.
Dates : This class has two class times offered. Mondays 10:30 - 11:30am - OR - Wednesdays 10-11am

One of our Core Values here at Legacy Oaks Academy is Community. You can see it reflected in everything we do.
We very intentionally designed our space to include places for kids to just hang out and deepen friendships.
Our middle school students have a set aside Connection Time to begin their day and our discussion based high school classes reflect this value as well.
At the end of last school year I was handed a note from a sweet middle school student. She wrote, “thank you for making a place where I could find my people.” 💚
