Big News for Lake Creek Academy!
Huge congratulations to Peter, who was just selected as one of ten inaugural Youth Mental Health Education Fellows by Letters to Strangers—a global nonprofit dedicated to destigmatizing mental illness and supporting adolescent mental health.
Through this year-long fellowship, Peter will be gaining actionable tools and training to directly support our students and ensure our staff is equipped to meet them where they are. We are so proud of his commitment to our school community and can't wait to see the positive impact of this work!

🦦 What an incredible first day back at school for the Lake Creek Otters yesterday! 🎒✨
Ms. Erica brought our entire team together, and our teachers and staff put on an amazing lineup of activities to kick off the new school year—including epic "Minute to Win It" games in every classroom! ⏱️🎉
One of the highlights was seeing our students participate alongside their Otter Buddies. Pairing older and younger students gave everyone a wonderful chance to get to know each other and build connections with our teachers right from day one. 🦦💙
Here is what’s coming up for the rest of the week:
Today: Students will start settling in and getting used to their daily school schedule. ⏰
Wednesday: Placement testing begins. 📝
All Week: Students will get to experience each of their electives to see if any class schedule adjustments are needed. 🎨🎶🏫
We will also be determining student needs for Personalized Education Plans, working closely with our Gifted and Talented teacher, Ms. Julie, and our Special Education teacher, Mr. Johnny. 🌟
We are so excited for everything this school year has in store. Let’s make it a great one, Otters! 🦦👇 Drop a comment below with your student's favorite part of day one!

To finish out Nature Camp week, we started the day learning how animals adapt in special ways to their environment. We completed stations that demonstrated how certain types of feet are best for digging or swimming, which types of beaks get the most worms, how animals and plants use camouflage to hide and hunt, and why frog tongues need to be sticky to catch those tricky bugs!
We spent the afternoon heading to the ocean and exploring its depths. Through a reading of Pfister’s “The Rainbow Fish,” campers were reminded of how important it is to share when building friendships. They were then invited to design their own bedazzled fish, as well as make individualized kinetic sand sensory bins, create jellyfish and engineer an accessory for their pool noodle sharks!
After a week of celebrating nature and all its mystery and magic, we ended the day spending time by our very own Lake Creek Academy Pond and enjoyed a sweet frozen treat! Some of our older campers taught our younger crew about pond life and a few were lucky enough to see LCA’s rising 7th grader, John, catch a catfish with a fishing pole he designed and built in the school’s STEAM Lab!

We kicked off the first day of Nature & Ocean Explorers Camp by making binoculars and heading out to LCA’s own pond! Campers explored the outdoors as they spotted birds, fish, and other signs of nature. Back inside, we learned about hiking and made our own trail mix to fuel future adventures. After lunch and recess, we read about one of nature’s oddballs—the horned lizard—before creating terrariums for our new animal friends.

The last three days have been packed with magical adventures! Campers built enchanting troll houses after learning about Scandinavian folklore, tie-dyed colorful mermaid tails, decorated unicorn horns, and worked together to create an amazing Enchanted Kingdom. We wrapped up the week by investigating cryptids with Bigfoot footprint races, a Sasquatch scavenger hunt, Loch Ness Monster crafts, cryptid artwork, and learning about the legends and history behind these mysterious creatures. What a fun way to end an unforgettable week!

The first two days of magical creatures camp has been… well… magical! We have learned about different creatures and created our own! We made spell books and potions. Campers have learned all about dragons - creating dragon eyes, helped hatch dragons from eggs, made dragon wings, and created nests for their dragons- with a few magical tricks! So much fun has been and will be had this week!

Happy 4th of July from Lake Creek Academy! 🎆
As we celebrate the United States Semiquincentennial—**250 years** since the signing of the Declaration of Independence—we reflect on the profound journey of our nation.
Independence Day is more than just a celebration of history; it is a reminder of a continuous promise. True **liberty and justice for all** isn't a static milestone achieved in 1776—it is an ongoing mission that requires the dedication, empathy, and active effort of every generation.
At Lake Creek Academy, we believe that education is the foundation of a free society. Our goal remains steadfast: to cultivate critical thinkers, compassionate leaders, and engaged citizens who will continue the vital work of building a more just, inclusive, and equitable world.
Today, we honor the progress made, acknowledge the work that still lies ahead, and celebrate the shared responsibility we have to one another.
Have a safe, reflective, and happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸
