Last week 5th Grade traveled to South Mountain State Park!

Students investigated animal skulls with the park ranger to determine what different animals eat, felt animal fur, and learned how these adaptations help animals survive in their environments. 🦉

Next, they enjoyed a peaceful hike learning about the natural wildlife and how the park helps treat wildlife against invasive species. 🍂🍁

Students discovered how water temperature and quality affect which organisms can survive there. They found some mayflies and learned that they are sensitive to pollution, while rainbow trout depend on cold, clean water to thrive. 💧🐟

Mrs. Cox’s class had an apple-solutely fun time learning all about apples! 🍎 We explored the life cycle of an apple, learned the parts of an apple, and finished with a yummy apple taste test! 😋

We even graphed our favorites to see which apple was the class winner! 🍏🍎📊 Learning is always sweeter when you can taste it! ❤️

To finish up our science unit about how animals communicate, 4th grade students looked at how fire flies (lightning bugs) communicate to find a mate. Students were given flashlights and cards with different flash patterns between a male and female to create the flash patterns. Then students created their own flash patterns. 🔦

It's that time of year again! The Scholastic Book Fair will be at SSE from October 5th - October 9th. This year we will take CASH during certain hours only but will take eWallet and Credit/Debit Cards throughout the day. We encourage all to set up eWallet for its convenience and to help students with keeping track of their funds! Below you will find the schedule, link for EWallet Sign up and times available for parents to attend. Hope to see you all there and Happy Shopping!

Parent Shopping Hours:
Students can shop with their parents from 8:00am - 8:25am! Students will need to return to class by 8:30am but parents may stay and shop until 9:00am.
Student Shopping Hours:
Students will have time to shop throughout the day with their classrooms. If students are shopping after 2pm they will need to use E-Wallet to purchase any items.

Monday - Thursday:
Cash, Cards, E-Wallet 8:00am - 9:00am, and Cards/E-Wallet Only from 3:00pm - 4:00pm
Friday: Cash, Cards, E-Wallet 8:00am - 9:00am

Students in Dual Kindergarten enjoyed reading Hair Love in both English and Spanish this week! 📚❤️ Students practiced identifying the characters and setting, as well as sequencing events from the story.
We also had a special guest, Coach Linebarger, who has hair just like the character in the story! Mrs. Muñoz even styled his hair in a ponytail, inspired by one of the hairstyles featured in the book.

To wrap up the week, Ms. Gibbs shared a picture of herself in kindergarten wearing another hairstyle inspired by the character. It was a fun week of learning, connecting, and celebrating different hairstyles and identities through literature! 💕📖

Mrs. Houston's class celebrated Johnny Appleseed day last week! They enjoyed: sorting apple stickers on apple trees, matching upper/lowercase letters on an apple tree, building apple trees with linking cubes, fine motor reat and glue on an apple & tasting lots of apple foods/drinks. Their favorite activity was creating their Johnny Appleseed pot and taking a silly picture with apples on their heads. 🍎🍏
