This past Thursday, three of our Senior High Band students got to attend this Jazz Clinic at Meyersdale! 🎶🎶🎶
Thank you to the Somerset County Band Association for making this happen!!
The Meyersdale Area School District hosted the first annual Somerset County Jazz Clinic on Thursday, October 1. Organizers are hoping to make this an annual event that hits all the right notes!
The Somerset County Jazz Clinic was open to all County students in grades 9 through 12. Dr. Kevin Eisensmith, Michael Bodolosky and Dan Hutton offered their expertise to the students in their respective areas of expertise, Brass, Rhythm and Woodwinds. During the day, students worked on the District 6 PMEA Jazz audition piece entitled “You’re the Last One,” as well as a piece entitled “Jumping Jellybeans” to improve confidence and jazz style music skills.
According to Mrs. Katie Howard, MASD Directors of Music, the main goals of the clinic were to help students prepare for their District 6 Jazz Solo auditions and help students develop skills needed for improv auditions/performances.
“It was a great day filled with cool experiences for our students. They got to work with exceptional jazz musicians who challenged them and gave them opportunities to grow and develop their own set of jazz skills. We’re looking forward to next year already!”
