After a 17-year absence, Eureka Downs in Eureka, Kansas will conduct Thoroughbred racing when a six-day race meet opens in mid-October.

The Greenwood County track operated for more than 100 years as the oldest surviving track west of the Mississippi River before it was shuttered in 2011 due to a funding shortage. It had not hosted Thoroughbred racing since 2008, the same year The Woodlands racetrack in Kansas City closed its doors.

Been hearing a lot of great things about the Kansas’s next generation of industry members. Equine education funds will be available through our KBDF. Thank you Bill McGuire for your work with our young horsemen and women.
