Head Start programs across the country are transforming how children experience food and nutrition!

At Lewis-Clark Early Childhood Program, children help tend the garden and see their efforts come full circle when the harvest is included in their meals. 🌱

At Fairbanks Native Association, the K'edenyahh Denh Garden and outdoor nature trail give children a safe place to explore seasonal fruits, vegetables, and plants while learning about their Native language and culture.

Last week, Administration for Children and Families - ACF announced the availability of supplemental funding to help more programs implement creative approaches to nutrition.

The World’s Largest Study of Shared Book Reading Reaffirms: Early Literacy Begins at Birth. 👶📖

Research found that after just 10 books, children in the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library were at least 4x more likely to demonstrate stronger emerging literacy skills, such as vocabulary and phonological awareness, compared to children not in the program.

Every weekday morning, while most of Cabarrus County is just getting started, the kitchen at Cabarrus Meals on Wheels is already hard at work. 🍳

Inside our 3,000 sq ft commercial kitchen, our incredible culinary team prepares fresh, nutritious meals from scratch, carefully planned and thoughtfully packed to fuel seniors and children throughout our community.

Before 10:00am, 900 meals are ready to go out the door.

That includes:

🥗 Hot, balanced meals for our homebound senior neighbors
🥪 Breakfasts and lunches prepared in partnership with Save the children - Head Start & Early Head Start North Carolina
📦 Meals carefully portioned, labeled, and ready for delivery

It’s more than food. It’s nourishment, independence, and care, all prepared with heart before most of us finish our first cup of coffee.

We’re proud of what happens in our kitchen each morning. And we’re grateful for the supporters, volunteers, and partners who make it possible to serve so many, so early, every single weekday.
