Georgia Tech Acceptance Rate: Class of 2030 - Top Tier Admissions 06/05/2026

Georgia Tech, a public research university in Atlanta long considered both a “New Ivy” and a “Public Ivy,” admitted 8,715 students to the Class of 2030 from a record 67,985 first-year applications—an overall acceptance rate of 12.8%, according to the university’s Office of Undergraduate Admission. That figure caps a five-year stretch in which Georgia Tech’s selectivity has tightened sharply, even as the pace of application growth has finally begun to cool.

GEORGIA TECH ACCEPTANCE RATE: CLASS OF 2030

Georgia Tech’s overall acceptance rate has fallen for five straight years, and the cause is no mystery: applications have grown far faster than the number of seats the university can fill. Our chart below traces that collision, and our table that follows gives the year-by-year figures.

The jump is the story. Applications leapt from 50,610 for the Class of 2026 to 67,985 for the Class of 2030—nearly 17,400 more, a 34% rise in five years.

Which Colleges Are Called the “Harvard of the South”? - Top Tier Admissions 06/04/2026

Every admissions cycle, families search for shorthand ways to understand prestige.

One phrase appears again and again in Google queries and parent conversations alike: “the Harvard of the South.”

It’s an unofficial and hotly contested title often used to describe elite Southern universities with rigorous academics, selective admissions, and national (or global) reputations. But which schools are actually known by this nickname? And more importantly, does the comparison help families make wise college decisions?

Below, we break down the universities most frequently called the “Harvard of the South,” what they have in common, and what students should really consider when building a college list.

Which Colleges Are Called the “Harvard of the South”? - Top Tier Admissions Vanderbilt, Duke, Rice, Emory, and Sewanee all claim the title — but which college is really the "Harvard of the South"? We break down what families should actually consider when building a college list.

Colleges Are Changing How They Read Essays Because of AI. Here’s What That Means 06/02/2026

In the 2025-2026 application cycle, colleges made some of the most significant changes to essay evaluation in a generation. The reason? Artificial Intelligence (AI). Some schools have dropped numeric essay scores. Others have begun to warn applicants that AI-generated text could cost them their admission. And a growing number of universities have added supplemental prompts asking students to reflect on their own relationship with AI. As someone who has reviewed thousands of applications for Stanford and UC-Berkeley while working in college admissions, here’s what I think families need to understand about what’s happening behind the scenes in admissions offices.

How Colleges Are Using AI to Review Applications

The 2025-2026 application cycle has reflected a continuation of the trend for students to submit more total applications.

Duke Acceptance Rate: Class of 2030 - Top Tier Admissions 05/29/2026

Duke University, located in Durham, North Carolina, is consistently ranked among the top 10 national universities and is widely regarded as one of the Southern Ivies. For the Class of 2030, Duke received a record-high 61,935 applications and admitted 2,930 students for an overall acceptance rate of 4.7%, holding near last year’s all-time low, according to The Duke Chronicle.

Duke admitted 4.7% of applicants to the Class of 2030, holding near the Class of 2029’s 4.8%. The defining feature of the cycle is the gap between the two rounds: an early acceptance rate in the low teens against a Regular Decision rate below 4%. Our table traces both pathways across five years.

The June College Waitlist Guide - Top Tier Admissions 05/28/2026

By the time June arrives, the emotional weather of the college waitlist has changed. In mid-April, waiting can still feel hopeful. Colleges are still making decisions, classmates are still comparing outcomes, and the process still feels alive.

Then, June actually arrives. As author Jean Hershey once said, “June is the gateway to summer,” but if you’re sitting on a college waitlist, it can feel a little less like a gateway and a little more like a gatekeeper.

By now, you’ve watched the May 1st Decision Day come and go. Hopefully, you put down a deposit on a college you love. Maybe you even hosted (or went to) a college bed party, which, as Business Insider notes, “involves decorating a student's bedroom with the colors, logos, and items that represent the college or university they've committed to — and sharing those images on social media.”

Graduation party invites are out. Hoodies and swag are on.

Vanderbilt University, a private research university in Nashville, Tennessee, is distinctive among elite institutions for housing four undergraduate schools under a single application. The university admitted just 2.8% of Regular Decision applicants to the Class of 2030, a record low, down from 3.3% the prior cycle, according to the Vanderbilt Hustler.

Vanderbilt Acceptance Rate: Class Of 2030 at a Glance

The Class of 2030 cycle widened the gap between Vanderbilt’s two admissions pathways. The Regular Decision rate fell to a record-low 2.8%, while the combined Early Decision rate held at 11.9%, leaving early applicants admitted at roughly four times the regular rate. Vanderbilt cautions that its final overall figure will not be official until the fall 2026 census, but the trajectory across both rounds points in one direction, as our chart of the past five cycles shows.

Selective colleges continue to receive more than enough highly qualified applicants while using increasingly sophisticated data, modeling, and institutional priorities to shape their classes.

The result is not an easier path, but a narrower one.
