Access to communication supports is critical for patients in the ER and doctorโs offices. As a family member, advocate, and ER physician, Dr. Michael Tarr offers a unique perspective into bridging the gap between caregivers and medical professionals.
For caregivers, he suggests providing physicians with as much data and personal insight about your loved one as you can, to help establish a baseline of their pain tolerance, communication style, and needs.
For physicians, he emphasizes the need to slow down and allow patients time to communicate, as well as talking directly to them (rather than the staff or caregiver).

Several residents from The Guild competed in the Special Olympics Massachusetts Summer Games this past weekend.
One resident said it felt good to win gold with his volleyball team because it had "been a while." But he is already looking ahead to the softball and flag football seasons to come!
Congratulations to all the athletes on their hard work ๐

Adult residents at The Guild have been out hiking with Waypoint Adventure to kick off the unofficial summer season!
Dylan helped out the whole group by carrying extra water and a camp chair for breaks. Christian demonstrated his growth as a hiker by leading the group for part of his furthest hike yet.
Thank you to Waypoint and their volunteers for creating accessible recreation and adventure opportunities for all, and to The Guild staff who advocated for individuals on the trail to make the outing such a success!
