At the recent 2026 Social Innovator Showcase, Gaining Ground welcomed members of Boston's nonprofit, philanthropic, and business communities to learn about our work and taste the difference fresh, healthy food can make.
Guests also heard from Executive Director Jennifer Johnson about Gaining Ground's exciting plans to grow even more nutritious food for hunger relief.
Gaining Ground was honored to be selected as one of seven 2026 Social Innovators for the Social Innovation Forum's esteemed nonprofit accelerator program.

Gaining Ground takes pride in growing what people want to cook with and eat. This fresh ginger is sprouting in the greenhouse and will soon be transplanted to the protection of a high tunnel.
Our partners have asked us to grow more fresh herbs, like ginger, that are rarely found in food pantries, but make food taste dee - licious!

Year-round farming in New England means fresh onions in springtime! Hundreds of pounds of these beauties were distributed to our partners this month, and used in freshly prepared meals served at Women's Lunch Place and Harvard Square Churches Meal Program.

Gaining Ground is hiring two additional Senior Field Crew Members for the 2026 season! Join our incredible team for the season, learn no-till farming practices, and grow healthy food for hunger relief.
Average of 40 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday, with up to one Sunday per month for greenhouse watering duties.

After the plant matter is pressed down this way, we’ll tarp these beds over so that in a few short weeks we can be transplanting food crops into the nourished soil underneath.
