MDUSD is pleased to announce the appointments of Monique Rountree as an Elementary Vice Principal at a school to be determined, Kathryn Davis as a Middle School Vice Principal at a school to be determined, and Jennifer Anne Swatzell as Vice Principal of College Park HS for 2026-27.
The appointments were approved by the MDUSD Board on its consent agenda at the June 10, 2026 meeting.

MDUSD is pleased to announce the appointment of Julian Urmson as the Principal of Mountain View Elementary in Concord.
Since 2010, Julian has held roles including substitute teacher, paraeducator, special education teacher, resource specialist and program specialist in MDUSD, and, for the past four years, Assistant Director of Special Education in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District.
Julian grew up in Oakland and is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in History. He holds an Educational Specialist Instruction Credential, an Administrative Services Credential, and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership.
Julian loves to hike, stay connected with friends and family and get into a good show or book. As a Concord/Pleasant Hill resident since 2014 and parent of three, Julian is deeply committed to keeping students at the center of every decision and looks forward to serving this community as an Elementary School Principal.

MDUSD is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ethel Burton as the Principal of Valley View Middle School.
Ethel started her K-12 educational experience in Miami-Dade County Public Schools, where she became a school administrator in 2009. Ethel relocated to the Bay Area in 2020, where she served as an Assistant Principal in the Oakland Unified School District, before moving to MDUSD in 2025 as Vice Principal at Oak Grove Middle School in Concord.
Ethel earned both her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership and Masters in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Prior to that, she earned her Master of Arts in Liberal Arts and Bachelor of Science in Criminology from the University of Miami.
Ethel is a proud wife and mother of two daughters. She believes every child that enters her space is guaranteed the right to a superior educational experience, where they leave well-rounded and prepared for career or college success.

MDUSD is pleased to announce the appointment of William “Lee” McPeak as the District Athletic Compliance Officer.
Lee has more than 25 years of experience in public education. After spending time in the classroom, he moved into school administration and most recently spent 11 years as principal of a K-8 school, then 9 years as principal of a high school in Northern California.
He earned his MA in Educational Management from the University of La Verne.
Lee is a husband and father of five - three in college and two college graduates. When he’s not working, you can find him with family and friends...and golfing.
Lee is excited to join the team at MDUSD! Please help us welcome him to his new leadership role in the District!

MDUSD is providing Free Community Meals available for all children 18 and under Monday through Friday between June 8 and July 2 at 21 District schools and on Wednesdays and Thursdays the Concord Library. Details are here:

Under California law, some school volunteers are now considered "Mandated Reporters" and must take annual training in order to volunteer after July 1, 2026. Anyone who wants to volunteer as a Level 2 or Level 3 volunteer in MDUSD after July 1 must complete the annual training, which is now available online.
