October 7: We Remember. We Reflect. We Come Together.

Three years ago today, the people of Israel awoke to a horror that would forever change Israel and the Jewish world. We remember those murdered on October 7, 2023, those taken hostage, their families, and the countless lives forever changed by that day.

In the three years since, Israeli society has endured war, displacement, loss, uncertainty, and the enormous burden carried by families and communities across the country. Yet we have also witnessed extraordinary resilience. The determination to care for one another, rebuild, and continue forward.

For Jews around the world, October 7 changed something as well. We have confronted a dramatic rise in antisemitism in our schools, workplaces, public spaces, and online. But we have also been reminded of the strength that comes from Jewish community and from standing together.

Here in New Hampshire, we have mourned together, stood against antisemitism, strengthened our connections to Israel and to one another, and created spaces for difficult conversations. Wherever you are today, we invite you to take a moment to remember those we lost, hold close all who continue to carry the wounds of October 7, and recommit ourselves to a Jewish future that is vibrant, connected, resilient, and unafraid.

We'll be reading the final portion of the Torah, V'zot Hab'rachah, in which Moses blesses the tribes of Israel, ascends to the summit of Pisgah to view the land, and dies. We'll be using a different Zoom link than usual, so if you need it please email or DM Ginnie Lupi.

This week we conclude the holiday of Sukkot and move on to Sh'mini Atzeret and Simchat Torah, during which we celebrate the completion of the annual reading of the Torah and affirm Torah as one of the pillars on which we build our lives.
