Little Ones Learning offers a daily preschool curriculum using Creative Curriculum that focuses on the developmental needs of each individual child enrolled. I use Zoo Phonics to help with letter and sound recognition along with Heggerty and Hand Writing Without Tears to help develop early literacy skills. Little Ones Learning offers conferences two times a year(Spring and Fall) using on going screening and assessment of children's development. We use the ELAP and LAP assessment and Ages and Stages for Screening. Little Ones Learning offers care for children 18 months to 7 years old. My name is Trisha Dart(Owner/Operator). I have two Associate Degrees both from Grand Rapids Community College. I have a degree in Child Development and an Associates of Arts degree. I began working as an Early Childhood Professional in 2007. I have worked in early childhood education programs in the West Michigan Area. Little Ones Learning was developed in July 2015 and opened in January 2016. My Mission and Philosophy:

To create a nurturing and educational environment that encourages the development of each individual child. I allow children to explore and learn at their own pace. Children are provided open ended materials and experiences where they are given the opportunity to build on their current knowledge of the world and how things work. Little Ones Learning knows children are naturally curious. I blend qualities from several theorists in early childhood that help children learn the best way they can. Children learn best with concrete experiences. Therefore, children are given many hands on experiences that are developmentally appropriate. Children are encouraged to try at least once but are not forced if they choose to. Children are guided to explore, learn, and discover through all areas of development. Children are provided developmentally age appropriate activities through art, music/movement, science, math, language/literacy, fine and gross motor, social/emotional development, and self-help skills. Children are encouraged to make positive choices. We know young children are learning so we know mistakes will be made. So we reinforce positive behavior through redirection, positive language, and natural consequences.

Words Matter! I have been an early childhood education professional, educator, teacher, and advocate for over 20 years. For 20 years I have been working to change the language. I am a teacher and when children leave my program they are ready to conquer the world. They are ready to be life long learners!

Early childcare providers say labels like "day care" hurt their funding.

We had our annual summer field trip today. We went to Boulder Ridge Animal Park in Alto this year .It was a hot day but everyone enjoyed feeding the goats, birds, and giraffes. The prairie dogs were hamming it up and the pygmy hippos were swimming and playing with a tire. I love it when my families are able to attend and get to mingle together. Thank you to all of the families that were able to go today and family friends that were able to attend.

It's with a heavy heart but my husband and I had to make the hardest decision possible and let our Shiloh pass over the rainbow bridge yesterday. Shiloh was loved by us so much and is already missed. She touched so many children's hearts over the last 11 years. She protected every child that attended Little Ones Learning. She still greeted some children and their families at the stairs even on her last day. It used to be the door but as she got older she only did the stairs when she had to.

There was this one time, in the early days of Little Ones Learning, when a skunk came wandering into our play ground while we were outside playing in water. I rushed the kids out of the yard to the door but Shiloh wanted to check it out. Thankfully she didn't get sprayed but she was a stubborn girl that day and only came to the door at the last minute.

If you're a former or current family of Little Ones Learning and have a story to share I'd love to hear it.

Summer has been a fun time so far. We made some 4th of July Tshirts. My own kids decided to get in on the fun. We've been tending our garden, finding toads, making art, practicing our cutting skills, building with blocks, exploring STEM with Clixo magnetic toys, and so much more.
