✈️ 2nd place… but hear us out. 😂🥈

Fly Compton Foundation showed up ready to pull, compete, and represent at the United Airlines Plane Pull in support of Special Olympics Southern California.

We officially finished 2nd place to the United Airlines Ramp Team… and considering they work around planes every day, we’re filing that under basically a tie. 😂💪🏾

Either way, our team came to WORK and had a great time doing it.

The real win was coming together for something bigger than the competition: supporting inclusion, opportunity, and the incredible athletes of Special Olympics Southern California. 💙

Huge thank you to United Airlines for the invitation, the Special Olympics committee for making the day so meaningful, and our community for showing up and absolutely killing it.

Next time, Ramp Team… we’re coming for that #1 spot. 👀✈️

✈️ Meet Solo Camp Pilot Alena McQuarter

At just 17 years old, Alena is already showing what it looks like to dream boldly and move with purpose. A future scientist with a heart for service, Alena enjoys singing, building LEGO sets, and pursuing her aviation journey with the goal of one day chartering medical mission flights around the world. 💙

And her story keeps getting stronger. As Dr. Alena McQuarter, Doctor of Education (EdD), she is proving that age is just a number, but impact is forever.

Her advice to future Solo Camp students is simple: trust the process and always believe in yourself. That same mindset continues to guide her as she keeps flying, keeps learning from her mentors, and works toward even more milestones in aviation.

Alena is a reminder that excellence has no age limit and purpose has no ceiling. 🚀

✈️ In partnership with flyCULTURE, we’re bringing aviation, innovation, and opportunity from the South Side of L.A. to the South Side of Chicago.

flyCULTURE is helping engineer the narrative by creating accessible pathways, championing representation in aviation, and connecting the next generation to high-impact STEAM experiences and immersive activations.

This September, Fly Compton Foundation is taking flight in a major way.

After 35 of our students participated in our “Letters to the Obamas” challenge, four student writers were selected to represent Fly Compton in Chicago — earning an all-expenses-paid trip and the opportunity to be part of our Fly Day Activation at the Obama Presidential Center.

On September 26, we’ll introduce young people on Chicago’s South Side to aviation, aerospace, STEM, engineering, creative career pathways, and hands-on experiences designed to spark possibility. 🚀

✈️ Meet Solo Camp Pilot Marquis Anthony Casanova Crockett

At 16 years old, Marquis is building a future centered around aviation, creativity, and leadership. When he is not pursuing his goal of becoming a commercial pilot, you can find him playing basketball, drumming with his band, acting, or singing. 🥁🏀

His advice to future Solo Camp students is to study hard, trust themselves, and never allow a few difficult flights to stop their progress. Everything takes time, and every challenge is another opportunity to keep moving forward.

As an official FCF Ambassador, Marquis plans to lift as he climbs by encouraging his peers, helping younger pilots succeed, and embracing every additional training opportunity available.

✈️ Meet Solo Camp Pilot Ivan Tovar

At 17 years old, Ivan is exploring a future as a commercial pilot or engineer. His interests extend beyond the cockpit to sports, off-roading, and experiencing live music. 🎶🏁

Ivan wants future Solo Camp students to know that it is normal to feel overwhelmed at first. His advice is not to be intimidated by the application process or the beginning of training. With time, practice, and persistence, the experience becomes more natural.

Following Solo Camp, Ivan plans to complete his exam preparation and focus on building additional flight hours as he continues moving closer to his aviation goals. 📚✈️

Cameron is 17 years old with his sights set on becoming a commercial pilot. Outside of aviation, he enjoys basketball, video games, and bike rides. 🏀🚲

Cameron believes that anything is possible when the passion is truly yours. His message to other students is to chase what brings you joy, make yourself proud, and remember the people who are supporting your journey.

This fall, Cameron plans to use his experience to introduce more young people to aviation and show them the possibilities and opportunities that come with taking flight.

This summer, our 3 amazing interns went behind the scenes of aviation and nonprofit leadership.

Over 32 immersive hours, they explored airport management, aeroclub operations, nonprofit marketing and administration, hangar organization, and helped plan and produce our Fit to Fly community event. Along the way, they built teamwork, communication, leadership, and problem solving skills while gaining firsthand exposure to careers that keep aviation moving.

A HUGE thank you to for investing in these incredible students from Compton High School by sponsoring their summer internships. Your generosity made this hands-on experience possible, and we’re so grateful for your commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders. 💙

Fly Compton Foundation is proud to join the Follow Through Foundation for an unforgettable day centered on leadership, opportunity, and lasting impact.

The Follow Through Golf Invitational is more than a day on the course. It is a commitment to finishing strong, investing in the next generation, and helping young people access pathways into aviation and aerospace.

A portion of the event proceeds will support Fly Compton Foundation programs that expose, educate, and elevate future pilots, engineers, and innovators. ✈️
