The sudden loss of a loved one is devastating. It brings with it a mixture of grief, confusion, anger, disbelief, fear, and more. Those who have suffered such a loss know that healing is a slow, incremental process for which there is no schedule, no script. The closure we need to be able to move forward comes with time, as they say, but also through innumerable gestures, large and small, along the way. Be it a formal memorial service or simply a fond memory, each is a salve that covers the wound a bit more each day. Over time, most are left with only a scar as a reminder of the one we lost but we are spared the pain that left it. But others will carry a wound that may never fully heal.

This week the studio said goodbye to our friend Sened with Amias Campbell’s arrangement of the melody from Dvorak’s Ninth Symphony. We were joined by members of the marching band section, as well as Mr. Garth Gundersen, our Interim Director of Bands. The opening solo was performed by Sened’s roommate and long-time friend, Korbin Shull.
