✨ Crystal Singing Bowls • Yin & Sound Healing ✨

There’s something truly special about the sound of crystal singing bowls. Made from pure quartz crystal (silica), these beautiful instruments produce rich, resonant tones that many people find deeply calming and meditative. For many, listening to these vibrations is a wonderful way to slow down, relax, and create space for mindfulness and quiet reflection.

Music has an incredible ability to help us reconnect with ourselves, and pairing gentle Yin yoga with the soothing sounds of crystal singing bowls creates a peaceful environment to unwind after a busy day.

🌿 Tonight I’m so excited to be guest teaching Yin & Sound Healing from 7:30–8:30 PM at Dark Lotus Yoga Studio in Nesconset, owned by my dear friends. you’re looking for an hour of relaxation, stillness, and beautiful sound, we’d love to have you. This class is offered every Thursday at 7:30 PM, and I’m honored to be subbing for today’s session! 🌙🪷 Dark Lotus Yoga 🪷🌙

This clip is from a restorative yoga class I played for a few years ago, and I’m excited to share these peaceful sounds again.

Looking ahead, we’re hoping to introduce small crystal singing bowl experiences at Whaley Music Studio this fall as part of our expanding wellness and music offerings. Stay tuned!

🎹 Did you know Whaley Music Studio doesn’t just teach kids and teens? We also work with adult students!

✨ Student Spotlight: Jacqueline ✨

Jacqueline returned to piano lessons in March after not playing since she was a child—and look how far she’s come! In just a few months, she’s already worked through nearly 100 pages of her adult beginner piano method book.

This video features Jacqueline learning Pachelbel’s Canon in D, the beautiful piece that was played at her wedding. 💕 What a meaningful way to revisit one of life’s most treasured memories through music.

Whether you’re returning to an instrument after years away or starting for the very first time, it’s never too late. Learning music is so much more than playing notes—it’s an emotional outlet, a creative way to express yourself, a relaxing hobby, and a wonderful way to keep your mind and body engaged at any age.

☀️ Summer Student Spotlight: Liz ☀️

Meet Liz, who is heading into 8th grade this fall! 🎹✨

Although she’s been studying piano for just about a year, Liz is already taking on beautiful late-intermediate repertoire. As a talented clarinetist, her love of music naturally expanded to the piano, and it’s been such a joy watching her musicality shine on both instruments.

This summer, Liz has been learning “A River Flows in You” by Yiruma—a timeless contemporary piano piece that’s flowing, meditative, and peaceful. It’s the perfect soundtrack for a warm summer afternoon or a cozy rainy day, reminding us how music gives us a beautiful way to slow down, reflect, and express ourselves.

I’m especially proud of the work she’s doing to coordinate the flowing left-hand arpeggios while bringing out the melody, all while mastering expressive pedaling. These are advanced skills, and Liz approaches them with a level of musical maturity well beyond her years.

I can’t wait to hear the finished performance. Every lesson brings more confidence, expression, and artistry, and I couldn’t be prouder of how much she’s accomplished this summer.

Way to go, Liz! ❤️ I’m so proud to be your teacher.

XOXO,
Miss Amanda 🎶

🎹✨ Grand Opening Celebration at Our Piano Studio ✨🎹

We are so excited to officially open our studio doors for special classes, workshops, and musical gatherings — a space where students can grow not only as musicians, but as confident, creative human beings. 🌿🎶

Recently, we held our very first Mini Recital Preparation Workshop for some of our beginner piano students as they get ready for our upcoming Spring Recital. For many of these young musicians, this will be their very first time performing in a recital, and it was such a joy to help guide them through the experience together.

During the workshop, students learned:
🎵 How to prepare for recital day
🎵 Calming and grounding breathing exercises for performance nerves
🎵 Positive affirmations like:
— I can be brave
— It’s okay to make mistakes
— I can keep going

They also practiced:
🎹 Announcing their name and piece into the microphone
🎹 Walking confidently to the piano
🎹 Performing and taking a bow
🎹 Being thoughtful audience members and supportive listeners for their fellow students

The room was filled with music, laughter, encouragement, and growing confidence. New friendships were formed, families joined in the fun, and it truly became a beautiful community event for parents, siblings, and students alike. 💛

We are so proud of everyone who participated. Watching these students step outside their comfort zones and support one another was something really special.

Great job, everyone — we can’t wait to hear you shine at recital day very soon. 🌸🎶✨

There are students who impress you with talent — and then there are students who quietly impress you with the way they work.

Miles (8th grade) performed Mozart’s Rondo alla Turca (Turkish March) as a Level 5 NYSSMA solo this year and earned an outstanding score of 98.

What stands out most about Miles is his work ethic. The way he practices is thoughtful, disciplined, and incredibly detail-oriented — nothing is rushed, nothing is careless, everything is shaped with intention. That kind of consistency shows up in the music in a very real way.

Even after the festival period had passed and weeks went by without actively preparing the piece, he still had it fully memorized — a reflection of how deeply he commits things to memory through focused, meaningful practice.

It’s rare and admirable to see that level of care at this age. Bravo, Miles. Proud of your dedication and everything you’re building as a musician.

Chiara (7th grade) took on not one, but two NYSSMA solos this year — piano and voice — and brought her full musical self into both performances. She earned an Outstanding on her vocal solo and an Excellent on her piano solo, a beautiful reflection of her range, effort, and artistry across disciplines.

What makes Chiara so special isn’t just her ability to move between instruments — it’s the way she listens. She has an incredible musical ear, a natural sense of phrasing and color, and a creativity that shows up in everything she touches. There’s an honesty in her performances that makes them feel alive.

I’ve had the privilege of teaching her for several years now, and it’s been such a joy to watch her grow into her own unique musical voice. She’s not only talented, but also kind, funny, smart, and genuinely a light to work with week after week.

So proud of everything she’s accomplished this year — and even more excited for where her music will take her next. More beautiful things ahead for this multi-talented artist.

Alicia (11, 6th grade) performed her very first Level 5 NYSSMA piano solo this year: Rhapsody by Maxwell Eckstein — and earned an A (93/100). An incredible achievement for a young musician already stepping into one of the highest NYSSMA levels.

What stands out most isn’t just the score, but the way she plays. Alicia brings a natural expressiveness to her music — every phrase shaped with intention, every detail touched with artistry. You can hear her connection to the piece in the way it breathes.

It’s been such a gift to teach her over these past several years and to watch her grow not only as a pianist, but as a true young artist finding her own voice at the keyboard.

Proud of you, Alicia — and excited for all the music still ahead.

Congratulations to our amazing student Jackson (16, 11th grade) on earning a 95 on his NYSSMA Level 6 piano solo — the highest level!

He performed Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy, a beautifully expressive and nuanced piece that requires both technical control and deep musical sensitivity.

I’ve had the privilege of teaching Jackson for 8 years, and it’s been so special watching him grow—not just as a pianist, but as a person. From finding his voice at the piano to stepping fully into himself through acting, singing, and musical theater, he continues to shine in everything he does. It’s incredible to see him thriving across so many creative paths and bringing that same artistry into his playing.

Jackson, your dedication and passion are truly inspiring.

Congratulations on a job well done—we are so proud of you! ⭐️🎭🎹

Congratulations to our incredible student Nikole (15, freshman in high school) on achieving a 99 on her NYSSMA Level 6 piano solo — the highest level!

She performed Liebestraum (Dreams of Love) by Franz Liszt, one of the most famous — and incredibly challenging — pieces in the piano repertoire.

I’ve had the joy of teaching Nikole for over 10 years, and there is nothing more special than watching a student grow from playing their very first note on the keys to performing one of the most difficult Romantic-era works with such beauty and artistry.

Nikole, your dedication, discipline, and heart shine through every note you play.

Congratulations on a job well done — we are so proud of our star! ⭐️🎹 YoungMusician ClassicalPiano FranzLiszt Liebestraum PianoLife MusicEducation PianoTeacher PianoStudent PracticePaysOff HardWorkPaysOff ProudTeacher RisingStar FutureMusician RomanticEra PianoPerformance 🎹✨
