Another wonderful week has come and gone here at EMS!
We are officially gearing up for all the fun October has in store, and we couldn’t be more excited. Stay tuned for all the activities, events, and excitement coming your way!
Poinsettia Sales have begun! Our poinsettia fundraiser is officially underway, and we already have some great prizes on display in Media 1 for our kiddos to check out.
Our Annual Rubber Duck Hunt is also coming up, and we can’t wait to kick off this fun EMS tradition.
Red Ribbon Week is just around the corner, and we have some fun dress-up days planned as we celebrate together.
And, of course, our annual EMS Fall Festival is coming up! We are so excited for a fun-filled event with our students.

This week, we want to give a very special shout-out to our amazing office staff, Maria & Itzel!
These two are absolute ROCKSTARS on our campus! They are there to help our students with all of their questions and needs, support our parents and families, assist our entire staff, and somehow manage all the craziness that comes through the front office every single day!
They are welcoming, helpful, patient, and always willing to jump in wherever they are needed. Our school truly would not be the same without them, and we are SO lucky to have Maria and Itzel on our team!
Thank you for everything you do for our students, families and staff! We appreciate you more than you know!

We can’t wait to see what next week has in store for our Riverhawks!

Week 6 That’s a Wrap!
What a busy and wonderful week at EMS! We had so many exciting things happening around campus, and we are so grateful for our amazing students, staff, and families who make these moments so special.
Our Math Festival Family Night was a HUGE success! Thank you to all of our students and teachers for volunteering their time and to every family who came out, participated, and made the evening so much fun. We couldn’t have done it without you!
We also celebrated our students who have completed their Data Confirmation with a fun afternoon of ice cream at the park! Thank you to all of our families who have taken care of this important step. We love finding fun ways to celebrate our students!
Today, we had a great Safety Day, reminding our RiverHawks about the importance of staying safe, making good choices, and looking out for one another. We wrapped up the day with our Staff vs. Student Volleyball Game, which is always a favorite! There’s nothing quite like a little friendly competition and lots of school spirit!
This week’s staff spotlight goes to Mrs. Coppin!
Mrs. Coppin did a fabulous job organizing and hosting our Math Festival. Her nickname is Sunshine, and it couldn’t be more fitting! She truly makes everything she is involved in brighter, more welcoming, and so much fun. Thank you Mrs. Coppin, for all the time, effort, and heart you put into making this event such a success. We appreciate you!
Here’s to another great week at Egling Middle School! Go RiverHawks!

Rough Draft - Not for Public Viewing

09/11/2026

This morning, Egling Middle School came together to remember and honor the lives impacted by September 11, 2001.
Our ASB President shared a beautiful and meaningful speech reminding us that while September 11th was a day marked by tragedy, it also brought out incredible acts of kindness, compassion, and unity from people around the world. She challenged us to carry that same kindness forward in the way we treat one another each day.
Together, our school held a moment of silence and a school-wide flag salute, standing united as one to remember, honor, and reflect.
We were honored to be joined by members of the Colusa County Sheriff's Office, City of Colusa Police Department, Colusa County District Attorney's Office, and the Colusa Unified School Board. Thank you for helping our students understand the importance of remembering this day and for standing alongside our school community.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Week 3 in the books @ EMS!

And just like that, we’ve wrapped up another week at Egling! Our students absolutely rocked their reading diagnostics, and we are so proud of the effort they put in. Testing isn’t always everyone’s favorite thing, but our students showed up, worked hard, and gave it their best!

Next week, we’re shifting gears as math data chats and math diagnostics begin, with math data work/diagnostics continuing throughout the month of September. Keep pushing along Riverhawks!

We also want to take a moment to celebrate someone very special to our campus… drumroll… Mr. Kalisuch, who is celebrating 30 years with CUSD!

For 30 years, Mr. Kalisuch has dedicated himself to making a difference both inside and outside the classroom. He pushes our students to work hard, challenges them to be successful, and always finds ways to connect with them.

And if you know Mr. Kalisuch, you know he doesn’t just tell kids to get involved, he gets right in there with them! Whether he’s competing in staff vs. student activities, playing games with students, supporting them outside of school, or attempting to keep up with the latest student lingo (and honestly, nailing it!), he is always willing to show up for our kids.

He brings the perfect combination of professionalism, fun, high expectations, and keeping it 100 with students. We are so grateful for the time, energy, and dedication he has given to our students and CUSD over the past 30 years.

Congratulations, Mr. Kalisuch! We are lucky to have you!

Last order of business for the week… find an EMS student and shop those Butter Braids! Our fundraiser is underway, and all profits go directly toward campus activities and events. Including our upcoming Fall Festival for all grades! Your support helps us create the experiences and memories our students look forward to all year.

Enjoy your weekend! Get some rest, have some fun, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on campus Tuesday!

Over & out Riverhawks!

Week 2 @ EMS - We made it!! We officially survived our first full 5-day week of the school year, and Egling is already rolling!

Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade girls volleyball teams! We are so excited to watch you hit the court and hopefully bring home some wins! We’re looking forward to a great Riverhawk season!

And this week, we want to give a HUGE shoutout to Mrs. Rasan Knox!

Mrs. Knox is celebrating an incredible 25 YEARS with CUSD! That’s 25 years of showing up, supporting students, spreading positivity, and making a difference! We are so lucky to have her here at Egling.

From her morning greetings at the gate, to her constant positivity, support for our students, Kindness Club, CJSF work, and her never-ending willingness to advocate for what our students need, she truly makes Egling a better place every single day.

We are SO grateful for you, Mrs. Knox! Congratulations on 25 years!

Next up… READING DIAGNOSTICS! We’re ready to get through next week, keep the momentum going, and make this school year one to remember.

Cheers to Week 2… we’re just getting started!
