How should constitutional principles established centuries ago guide courts confronting today’s criminal justice questions?

On September 10–11, the Originalism and Criminal Justice Symposium will bring together federal judges, legal scholars, and practitioners representing a range of perspectives to explore whether and how originalism should be applied to modern issues involving policing, trial rights, and punishment.

The in-person symposium is open to the public, including members of the legal community, alumni, students, faculty, and staff. Registration is required.

A native of Wadsworth, Ohio, Mya earned a degree in English from The Ohio State University. When asked why she chose Moritz, Mya shared:

“On top of Moritz’s outstanding reputation, exceptional alumni, and supportive faculty and staff, I fell in love with Ohio State during my undergraduate years and couldn’t imagine leaving the school I’ve grown to love so much.”

Mya is interested in wills, estates and trusts as well as family law. She is excited to experience campus in a new way after spending her undergraduate years dreaming of attending law school at Drinko Hall.

Welcome back to Ohio State and welcome to Moritz, Mya!

How could artificial intelligence change the way people resolve legal disputes?

Professor Amy J. Schmitz, director of JusticeTech at Ohio State, explores that question in The Cambridge Handbook of AI in Civil Dispute Resolution, a new book she co-edited with Pietro Ortolani and Marco Giacalone.

Featuring insights from experts around the world, the book examines how AI is already being used in civil justice systems and considers how the technology could make dispute resolution more efficient and accessible—while also raising important questions about fairness, ethics, and accountability.

Congratulations to Professor Schmitz and everyone who contributed to this timely publication!
