Enjoy hundreds of free articles on www.preparednesspro.com This is the official page for PreparednessPro.com Preparedness for the rest of us. Beginners are welcome here as well. We base our approach to self-reliance and self-sufficiency on The Ten Principles of Preparedness which covers EVERY aspect of self-reliance, a practical order of prioritization. (Please go to our blog to review t

he Principles, starting here: http://preparednesspro.com/ten-principles-of-preparedness-2/ )

We approach this topic based on a foundation of non-denominational Christian Principles. So if Christianity offends you and you find yourself incapable of being exposed to such notions without stirring up contention, this is not the page for you. Additionally, we're a "rated PG" group here, so please keep the language family friendly. F-bombs and other crass language may get you banned from the page altogether. When in doubt as to whether or not your vocabulary choice is offensive, please censor it to be respectful of others. We're fine with hearing a difference of opinion, but we'll never be OK with a person being disrespectful, hateful, and highly contentious towards another person, particularly of a person's faith or moral beliefs and such comments will constitute such persons being banned from our page. First Amendment only gives a person the right to speak as they wish; it does not give them the right to evade the consequences that come with those choices. Please find a way to express yourself without mean, hateful, or vulgar language. When you disagree with someone, please make a concerted effort to differentiate disagreement with an idea or opinion as opposed to trashing a person. Also, please do not use this page to advertise your business or for Spam. This also includes you not posting business sites which are in direct competition with this site and its vetted sponsors or which are in direct conflict with the desired culture of our site. If you do post a commercial post that's not conducive to the conversation, or that is clearly for commercial purposes you may be banned immediately, without any warning. We want to be fair to everyone and we wholeheartedly support anyone in their entrepreneurial pursuits, but given the nature of our audience, we could end up with a whole lot of business promotion and very little preparedness education. Much of our audience also assumes that if a product or service appears on our site that it's an indicator of our promotion and acceptance thereof. So regardless of whether or not we love your product or service personally, we're going to need you to refrain from utilizing our site to promote your business. Also, please have some respect. We ARE A PREPAREDNESS EDUCATION business. So we'd appreciate it if you didn't post articles from other preparedness-related entities. Doing so may also cause you to be banned from this page. We try to ONLY post information from such entities that have been vetted and can be relied upon to be correct and factual. Unfortunately, there are very few such entities nowadays and there are so many available on the internet that it takes a lot of time to vet them all properly. If an article is viable, but comes from a site that we've not yet had the opportunity to check out, it's very likely that it will be moderated. Lastly, we will not post inaccurate or unfounded information on this page. Such information will not be permitted to stand uncorrected and may be deleted. Posts by Snopes, Factcheck or Wikipedia will be deleted. We do not recognize them as a viable source of accurate information. Simple enough, right? Disclosure: The founder, Kellene Vaile is ALWAYS asked "where do I get" such and such an item. As such, I periodically provide links to such items. In the event that a link is an Amazon link, I am compensated a small percentage of such a purchase, depending on the volume of purchases in any given month. PRIVACY NOTICE: Warning - any person and/or institution and/or Agent and/or Agency of any governmental structure including but not limited to the United States Federal Government also using or monitoring/using this website or any of its associated websites, you do NOT have my permission to utilize any of my profile information nor any of the content contained herein including, but not limited to my photos, and/or the comments made about my photos or any other "picture" art posted on my profile. Did you know? Frozen food that still contains ice crystals after a power outage can often be safely refrozen, even if it has partially thawed. If it is still 40°F or below, USDA says it can be refrozen, though the quality may suffer.

Apparently, water storage has more folklore than a small town.
Does water really “expire” after six months? Does concrete contaminate it? Should every barrel get a splash of bleach? Can pool water become drinking water with enough optimism and a fancy filter?

My newest article separates useful precautions from the water-storage myths that simply refuse to drown—including how much bleach to use when water actually needs emergency treatment, what to write on your containers, and why a full 55-gallon barrel should be placed correctly before it becomes a 450-pound garage monument.

Did you know? If you want realistic practice learning how to suture, pig skin is one of the closest readily available training materials to human skin because of its resistance, thickness, and elasticity. In comparative studies, pig skin has been one of the preferred models for learning suturing technique and has performed better than things like oranges and some synthetic pads.

Did you know? One inch of rain falling on a 1,000-square-foot roof equals roughly 620 gallons of water. Suddenly that rain barrel doesn’t seem quite so ambitious.

“I’ll figure it out” sounds like a plan—right up until the lights are out, the family is hungry, the instruction manual has vanished, and the freeze-dried dinner tastes nothing like the smiling potatoes on the package.
Preparedness gear only becomes useful when you’ve actually opened it, tested it, and discovered which part requires three hands and a vocabulary unsuitable for children.

My newest article explains why the middle of an emergency is a terrible time for your first practice session—and how a little experience now can spare Future You a great deal of confusion later.

Did You Know?
A protein-rich breakfast may keep you fuller longer than a breakfast built mostly around refined carbohydrates.
Research has found benefits for satiety and appetite control, although results vary depending on the person and meal. Eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, beans, or leftover meat may keep breakfast from filing for bankruptcy by 10:30 a.m.
