Marian Anderson is one of my childhood heroes. Her voice is beautiful. She was an operatic contralto with gorgeous depth and warmth in her sound that was incredible.
The main reason for my hero worship is my mom told me the story, when I was little, of an African American opera singer who was not allowed to sing in Constitution Hall in Washington DC, so the concert got moved to the Lincoln Memorial and she sang there instead for approximately 75,000 people.
That story captured my imagination. I loved it. I loved how she didn't let something stop her and she ended up singing at an even better venue and for a huge crowd. I've loved her and her perseverance and story ever since. She has been one of my heroes ever since. Please enjoy a small part of Marian Anderson's story.

So this is one of my favorites. AMAZING voice. This ended up being one of my favorite seasons of American Idol because of this performance. You just don't hear this type of voice or see this powerful of a performance much now a days. If you could wear out a Youtube button by watching a video so many times, this would be it. Joshua Ledet, "Its a Man's World".

Velvety voice. Impeccable musicianship. Beautiful piano playing and arranging. Nat King Cole had it all. He also had the best singing βahβ position that any vocal teacher would love to use as a demonstration. Here he is singing βWhen I fall in loveβ. Enjoy!!
