Welcome to the official page for the Columbus Municipal School District located in Columbus, Mississippi.

Columbus Schools serve the people of the City of Columbus. The city schools are separate from the county school system. There are five (5) elementary magnet schools, a new state of the art middle school, an award-winning technology center, and a comprehensive high school. CMSD is proud to be the first school district in Mississippi to offer school choice to parents of our kindergarten-fifth grade students. CMSD serves approximately 4,500 students. There are 700 teachers and support personnel.

[05/14/19]   Columbus High School will have its inaugural Senior Walk-Through on May 15, 2019. All seniors need to report to the gym with their gowns, tassels, and comfortable shoes on by 7:55 am. Upon entering the gym, all seniors need to report to their designated seat.

CMSD Elementary Students Rock Coding

CMSD has partnered with Columbus Light and Water, the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Mississippi Coding Academy to start coding integration into all elementary magnet schools in the district. The purpose of this program is to introduce students to basic coding skills while promoting educational practices that have high engagement, application and an emphasis on the Mississippi College and Career Standards.

We will have a regular schedule school day on Monday February 25, 2019.

Buses will pick up students on their regular route on the corner of open streets if you have roads that are blocked due to obstructions. Please call the bus office at 662-798-0516 if your child is not picked up.

Students that attend Columbus Success Academy will be relocated to Columbus High School indefinitely.

Students that are usually bused to Sim Scott and Townsend Community Center will now be picked up by parents at Sandfield Community Center at 617 Oak Street.

Displaced students can find resources with the local Red Cross and the Townsend Community Center will provide food and shelter for families.

[02/22/19]   The Lady Falcons' playoff basketball game has been postponed due to the weather. The game has been rescheduled for Monday, February 25, 2019 at 6 pm in Greenville, MS.

[02/11/19]   We are hosting our first annual Parent Fair on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, 6:00 -7:30 at the Brandon Central Services Center. We would like to invite all CMSD parents to attend this exciting event hosted by the department of Federal Programs. Refreshments will be served. We hope to see YOU there!

[01/30/19]   In accordance with accountability standard 13.3 {Miss. Code Ann. 37-151-5 (j)} we will make up the missed instructional day of 1/29/19 on 4/22/19. All employees, students and teachers are expected to be in attendance.

[01/29/19]   Due to the threat of inclement weather moving in overnight, CMSD will be closed on Tuesday, January 29th. We will resume a normal schedule on Wednesday, January 30th.

CHS Varsity Singers Caroling at Brandon Center Services Center The amazing CHS Varsity Singers treated Brandon Central Services Center staff with Christmas Carols.

Failing no more: How principals, teachers at two area schools led their campuses out of MDE's ratings basement In August, Franklin Academy Principal Tawan Williams walked into the school library where her teachers sat waiting. With a sense of pride and optimism, she delivered the long-awaited news -- Franklin, an elementary school in the struggling Columbus Municipal School District, was a C-rated campus.

[10/15/18]   Parent University Meetings that will be held October 16, 2018.

Fairview, Franklin, Sale, Stokes-Beard, CMS and CHS will host the Parent University meetings at 12:00 noon.
Cook and Sale Elementary Schools will host a second meeting at 5:30 p.m.
Stokes-Beard Elementary School will host a second meeting at 6:00 p.m.

The Columbus High School Parent University topic will be Cyber Bullying Everything Parents Should Know. The guest speaker will be District Attorney Scott Colom.

Parents, please feel free to attend one of the Parent University meetings held on the school campuses tomorrow. Refreshments will be served. For additional information, please contact your child’s school.

[09/29/18]   CMSD students in grades 3 through high school will take 9 weeks test during the week of October 1-5.

The schedule is as follows:

Monday – ELA
Tuesday – Writing
Wednesday – Math
Thursday – Science

All students have copies of a study guide to assist in preparing for the test. Please encourage your child to review the study guide, get a good night’s rest each night, and eat a good breakfast. We are aiming for 100% attendance for testing.
