As the city develops, this proposal highlights the development of the Heritage Quarter, a mix of commercial and mixed-use infill development, historic preservation, local business retention, and green space in Lima, Ohio, that revitalizes the block to its previous cultural importance.

The Heritage Quarter lies just south of downtown and on the southwest edge of the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, creating a prime opportunity to channel business and foot traffic to and around the site.

The Baumer Lecture Series will continue tomorrow, September 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Gui Auditorium with Andrew Clancy and Colm Moore of Clancy Moore Architects.

This talk is a reflection on methodologies and sensibilities that underlie the work of Clancy Moore Architects. Our practice is an infrastructure to allow us to come to terms with the fundamental contingencies of our world and discipline. Making buildings is a messy process that is difficult to anticipate or structure. We adopt an open stance—accepting all of these as the substance of our practice. Our studio is a place where clear intentions are subverted by careful accidents. As a consequence ours is a practice that accepts doubt as constructive and weakness as a strength. In doing so we recall architect Lino Bo Bardi and her call for ”architecture not as built work, but as a possible means to be and to face different situations.“

With the goal of achieving the most depth in a flat, low relief workshop, Sheared Stack implements repeating porous floor-plates sheared in opposite directions to create various spatial conditions and points of connection and movement at misalignments.

Montage Tower utilizes the spiral to create a continuous experience of vertical movement through growing and shrinking spatial conditions controlled by a system of repeating, rotating and combining floor-plates.

Together, they explore ways in which systems of simple geometric transformations on repeating objects can generate complex organizations of space.

The Baumer Lecture Series begins this Wednesday, September 2, at 5:30 p.m. in the Gui Auditorium with Trott Distinguished Visiting Professor Ghida Anouti.

Ghida Anouti is the Trott Distinguished Visiting Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University. In her research, she attends to sonic ways of being in the world and examines how media technologies and sonic phenomena operate as spatial, material, and political forces in geographies of conflict, particularly in Lebanon.

Tracing how auditory perception produces and calibrates relationships between bodies, environments, and systems of power, her work considers how knowledge production is culturally situated and increasingly entangled with technological and militarized forms of observation. These inquiries encompass close readings of atmospheric and environmental phenomena that register violence beyond the limits of the ocular.

Anouti is the curator of The Thunder is Loud and Rolling, an exhibition in the Banvard Gallery that traces the evolution of this relationship between ground and sky in southern Lebanon to illuminate how cosmic literacy persists as both a site of interpretation and a practice of worldmaking, shaping new attachments to land even as it is shaped by the violence of conquest.

The Knowlton School is pleased to announce that Landscape alumna Allison Swanka (MLA ’26) has been awarded a 2026 ASLA Honor Award in the Analysis and Planning category from the American Society for Landscape Architects (ASLA) for her directed research project, Making Up Ground: New Language for the Wasteland.

ASLA student awards “represent the highest level of achievement among the future of the profession.”

Making Up Ground analyzes conventional language and management approaches for Superfund sites, focusing on Palmerton, Pennsylvania, and the Palmerton Zinc Pile site. Twenty miles of the scenic, regional Appalachian Trail go right through the middle of this site, raising broader questions about the perception and design of contaminated landscapes. Language is used as a tool to examine the poetics and meaning of the site, rather than treating it as a place to be fenced off or camouflaged, or solely as a problem to solve. A design plan for adaptive management demonstrates a system for making ecological restoration a legible and cultural way of working with these complex landscapes.

The Thunder is Loud and Rolling

The Thunder is Loud and Rolling brings together practitioners confronting the fraught conditions shaping southern Lebanon today, where earth and sky emerge as sites of struggle and fields of possibility. While older negotiations with the environment persist, agricultural life must now calibrate between a high-tech occupation overhead and an enduring fidelity to land and harvest below, giving rise to spatial and cultural practices that unsettle any easy division between war and peace.

In their drawings, EcoRove and Mohamad Nahleh render this entanglement legible, tracing how militarization is at once eclipsed and reimagined through an insistence on a shared, postcolonial future. Through sound installation and ceramic bells, Ghida Anouti and Jess Myers tune the space to the enduring temporalities of land and the strained listening that occurs in the fragile timing of safety and seasonal order.

The Banvard Gallery is located on the first floor of Knowlton Hall and is open Monday–Friday from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
