Every parent wants the same thing: to see their child learning, growing and thriving. 💙

But what happens when the school a child attends simply isn’t working for them? When another school could provide the environment, support or opportunities they need—but finances stand in the way?

For thousands of Ohio families, scholarships make it possible to say “yes” to the school that fits their child rather than being forced to accept the school someone else thinks they should attend.

Before we debate programs, funding or politics, maybe we should ask a much simpler question:

What if it were your child?

Every family deserves the opportunity to find the right educational fit. Because when it comes to a child’s future, their needs should come first.

There’s a lot being said about school choice in Ohio. But one part of the conversation doesn’t seem to get shared nearly enough: the students. 💙💚

Funding matters. Policy matters. Schools matter. But behind every debate is a child whose education, opportunities and future are affected by the decisions adults make.

School choice was never supposed to be about one type of school winning over another. It’s about recognizing that children are different—and giving families the opportunity to find the learning environment where their child can succeed.

So while the headlines may focus on systems, dollars and politics, we’ll keep bringing the conversation back to where we believe it belongs:

The students.

Because at the end of the day, school choice isn’t about schools. It’s about students.

📊 When it comes to school funding, the full picture matters.

We often hear claims that Ohio has dramatically reduced its commitment to public education. But what do the numbers actually show?

In this important analysis, Aaron Churchill of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute takes a closer look at Ohio’s school-funding system—including the often-overlooked 20-mill property tax floor and the billions of dollars it generates for public school districts.

Among the findings: Ohio districts received $8.1 billion from the state-required 20 mills in 2025, while direct state support combined with those revenues provided $18 billion in foundation funding.

Before we debate whether Ohio is investing enough in education—or whether educational choice is somehow taking resources away from public schools—we need to start with an accurate understanding of how schools are actually funded.

Today, School Choice Ohio joins millions around the world in remembering and celebrating the extraordinary life of Dolly Parton.

Dolly gave us unforgettable music, but perhaps her greatest legacy will be the millions of children whose lives she touched through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. What began in 1995 as a tribute to her father, who could not read or write, grew into a worldwide movement that has placed more than 300 million books into the hands of children and helped families discover the joy of reading together.

Here in Ohio, her impact is especially meaningful. Dolly’s Imagination Library is available to every Ohio child from birth to age five, regardless of family income, bringing a new book to a child's mailbox every month and opening a world of possibilities with every page.

But Dolly gave children something even greater than books. She gave them an example.

She showed us that success and kindness can go hand in hand. That we can accomplish great things without forgetting where we came from. That serving others is one of the most meaningful things we can do with the gifts we have been given.

And through it all, Dolly reminded us to find joy—to laugh, to dream big, to encourage one another and to leave the world a little brighter than we found it.

At School Choice Ohio, we believe deeply in the potential of every child and in giving children opportunities to learn, grow, dream and discover who they are meant to become. Few people embodied that belief more beautifully than Dolly Parton.

Her songs will continue to be sung. Her books will continue arriving in little mailboxes. Children will continue turning those pages, discovering new worlds and dreaming bigger dreams because she cared enough to give them that opportunity.
