You know the party you are invited to is going to be good when the table is set like this! Play matters! When children make-believe, they build connection, creativity, collaboration and language. Wow 🥰 Happy play to all.

Kindness to children matters…no matter their age! We bring kindness, gentleness and dignity to each other everyday.

This picture surfaces every so often as we get ready to go back to school. Apparently, this sign is hanging on the office door of a Catholic High School in Little Rock, Arkansas.

I loathe this sign.

We have normalized helping out other adults when they need help. Why can’t we do that to our kids? We can be kind to adults, but not to children? We have to watch them struggle to ‘teach them a lesson’?

The hallways in schools are covered with signs promoting kindness, yet we do this? It’s hypocrisy at the highest level.

If my spouse forgot something at home, and I was able, of course I would bring it to her.

And the ableism! Remembering things can be a daily struggle for people with ADHD, Autism or executive functioning challenges. We’ll give grace to adults, but not neurodivergent people?

One comment really resonated with me. “This is one small way many of us adults grew up to be people who can’t ask for help when we need it, beat ourselves up over minor mistakes, or feel like failures when we are anything less than perfect.”

I worked in a school where kids lost school points if they forgot their sneakers for gym and couldn’t participate in the schoolwide celebration. They had to sit out and watch while their classmates had fun. Thanks PBIS. What are we doing? Schools hang up anti-bullying posters, too, yet they think this is good policy.

This is a perfect opportunity for The Collaborative and Proactive Solutions Model to problem-solve while still supporting your child!
Bring them their lunch. Bring them their homework. Bring them their sneakers. Let’s offer the same grace to kids that we would to other adults. Let’s be kind to children.
