The History, Geography, and Philosophy Department makes undergraduate research and experiential learning a cornerstone of our programs and majors, offering our students invaluable skills, opportunities, and career readiness that serve them well in the classroom and beyond. 2025 History student Hallie Tanner exemplifies this. Recently, the research she conducted for Historical Methods course was integrated into a permanent exhibit in the Clifford & Bobsie Swift History Trail at the Chattahoochee Promenade in Columbus, Georgia!

For the project titled "From Cotton Mills to Corporate Giants: The Industrial Revolution in Columbus, Georgia," Hallie explored a period of transition in Columbus' history, highlighting a shift from the city's historic cotton mills industry towards a more corporate, white-collar economy.

Columbus State’s 2026-27 Hallock Endowment for Military History lecture series will examine the origins, impact and legacy of the U.S. war in Afghanistan, marking 25 years since the conflict began.

HGP loves the Columbus State University Archives and Special Collections ! Earlier today, Dr. Laura June Davis 's HIST 2111 class went to the Archives to explore and analyze some of the historic maps of the Spencer Collection to compare and contrast the competing empires of colonial America.
