Hey parents! 🍎✏️

As the new school year gets closer, I want to share three quick tips to help your child have a smooth and successful transition back to school.

“Tip one” Help your child identify their safe adults at school. Ask them, “Who can you go to if you’re having a hard day?” This could be a teacher, the school counselor, the school social worker, the principal, or another trusted staff member. It’s also helpful for them to know where they can go if they need a few minutes to calm down and regroup.

“Tip two” Have a conversation about bullying before it becomes an issue.
Talk about what bullying is, remind your child that they never have to handle it alone, and make a plan for who they’ll tell if something happens. Keeping the lines of communication open at home makes a big difference.

“Tip three” Start adjusting those bedtimes now! Getting back into a school sleep routine before the first day can make mornings much easier and helps children come to school rested, focused, and ready to learn.

A little preparation now can make a big difference throughout the school year.

I’m Ebonie Daley, MSW, LISW-S, Founder of Hafford-Daley Services & Consulting, LLC, Licensed Independent Social Worker, and Licensed School Social Worker. I provide therapy and mental health support for children, adolescents, young adults, throughout Ohio.

If your child is struggling with anxiety, bullying, school-related stress, life transitions, or other emotional or behavioral concerns, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I’d be honored to support your family!

Fun Day Friday!🎉🎮

Some of the most therapeutic conversations can happen over a game of Connect 4 or UNO.

Play creates opportunities to build trust, strengthen communication, practice emotional regulation, and help children develop problem-solving skills, all while connecting and having fun.

And yes… I always play to win! 😂✌🏽

Today, while volunteering as a reading tutor, I came across something that made me stop and smile.😆

As I was reading with the children, the book introduced the role of a Social Worker. I was so thrilled that I had to snap a picture! 📚📸

Seeing these young readers discover that Social Workers help individuals, families, and communities navigate life’s challenges was a reminder that books can inspire future helpers, advocates, and leaders! My heart is full today. 💙

Agreed!! 👏🏽

Words like "at-risk," "disadvantaged," and "broken home" have been part of education vocabulary for so long that we often stop noticing the assumptions they carry.

The language we use shapes how we view students. When labels focus on what's wrong with a child rather than the challenges surrounding them, we can unintentionally overlook the barriers, experiences, and systems affecting their lives.

This isn't about finding the "right" buzzwords. It's about being more accurate, more compassionate, and more intentional in how we talk about the young people we serve.

The words we choose shape the way we see children. And the way we see children shapes how they see themselves.

Save this. Share it with your team.

If you'd like this as a poster for your counseling office or staff room, you'll find it at ncyi.org/posters.

📚☀️ Sooo excited to serve as a Summer Reading Tutor this year!

Reading is about so much more than words on a page. Strong reading skills can help build confidence, improve communication, increase frustration tolerance, and support positive behavior both in and out of the classroom!

When children experience success, even in small ways, it can improve motivation, self-esteem, classroom behavior, and their willingness to keep trying when things get difficult.

Looking forward to supporting students this summer and helping them develop skills that extend far beyond reading. ❤️

💚May is Mental Health Awareness Month! 💚

Every child deserves a safe space to learn, grow, and be supported. As a School Social Worker and Therapist, I’m passionate about helping students build coping skills, resilience, and confidence while partnering with schools and families to promote positive mental health.

Let’s continue to remind children that asking for help is a sign of strength.

Getting ready for something special 💙✏️

So excited to kick off our small group using The World of Lost Socks Adventures! This week we’re diving into “Migration: The Journey of Dan and the Warbler”—a story that helps us explore change, emotions, feelings, and finding our way even when things feel uncertain.

Creating space for connection, growth, and a little bit of fun along the way! ✨
