🎃 Pumpkin Spice & Trade Advice: Culinary Edition 🥧

Fall is officially here, and our Culinary Arts pathway is bringing the cozy holiday flavor!

Our student chefs are sharing one of their absolute festive favorites: Moist Gingerbread Cake with Tangy Cream Cheese Frosting! Spiced with ginger, cinnamon, and cloves, and sweetened with rich molasses, this show-stopping dessert is pure holiday comfort.

🥣 Chef’s Pro Tip: Alternate adding your dry ingredients and buttermilk in batches so your cake stays light, tender, and perfectly moist!

✨Want to try it for yourself? Our C4 Culinary students will be featuring this very Gingerbread Cake at this year’s Christkindl Market in Brown County on December 4–6! Mark your calendars and come support our student bakers! 🧑‍🍳🎄

This year’s Scott Taskey Memorial Golf Outing was an unforgettable success on the greens! Community members came together for 18 holes of friendly competition, camaraderie, and giving back—all to honor Scott Taskey’s lasting memory and empower students in the C4 program.

Thanks to team registrations, hole sponsorships, and lively raffle bidding, the funds raised will go directly toward C4’s hands-on career and technical education by funding:

Huge congratulations to Chef Carrie and our incredible C4 Culinary Arts students! For the second year in a row, our team brought home a win at last night’s Taste of Columbus, taking home Most Unique for their incredible savory tomato pies! 🥧✨

We couldn't be prouder of the creativity, hard work, and flavor our students brought to the table. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to support our future chefs!

🎯 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Mr. Johnson 🎯

For 40 years, Mr. Johnson has been a cornerstone of our C4 program, shaping minds and inspiring future designers in our Architecture classes. His journey began right down the road as a Seymour High School grad (where he fell in love with Building Trades and U.S. History), before earning his BS at Ball State and his MS at Indiana State University.

Get to know the man behind the blueprints:

● Claim to Fame: Designed and built a massive 32-foot covered bridge right in a parking lot, hauled it across town, and set it into place with a crane. 🌉🏗️

● If he wasn't teaching: He’d be working as a ballistician!

● Hobbies & Dream Trip: An avid shooting sports enthusiast, his absolute dream vacation is an elk hunt in New Mexico. 🏹🌲

● Family Life: Married to his wife, Wendy, for 37 years! He's a proud dad to his daughter, Zoey, and pup-dad to a rescue Lab named Scout. 🐾

If you guessed C) THRUST, you nailed it!

When our Intro to Transportation students threw their paper airplanes, the initial push from their arm created the thrust needed to overcome drag (air resistance) and get airborne!

Here is a breakdown of the four forces flight relies on:

● Thrust: Moves the plane forward.
● Lift: Holds the plane in the air.
● Drag: Slows the plane down.
● Gravity: Pulls the plane back toward the Earth.

🔧 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: JEFFREY JOHNSON 🏁

From turning wrenches in high school to driving innovation at Cummins—and taking home championships on the track—C4 alumnus Jeffrey Johnson shows where hands-on training can take you.

During his time at C4, Jeffrey took Auto Trades with Mr. Stidham/Mr. Taylor and Machine Trades with Stan Meyer. That foundation launched his career, taking him from a technician at Renner Ford and Honda straight to Cummins at age 20.

Over a 15-year career at Cummins, Jeffrey has:
● Worked on the CMEP assembly line building Dodge Ram engines.
● Served as a Mechanical & Technical Support Specialist at the Cummins Technical Center, running test cells and solving complex product issues.
● Transitioned to his current role as a Service Diagnostics Information Systems Specialist, using his real-world engine experience to minimize downtime and guide troubleshooting.
● Earned a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management and Accounting from IUPUC.

Life in the Fast Lane 🏎️ Jeffrey's passion for mechanical work doesn't stop at his day job. He turned a passion for drag racing into over two dozen event wins, including two Stick Shift Championships in the Hoosier No Prep Series and a Top 8 spot in the national NMRA series—all in a fully functional street car with AC and heat! He's currently building a 2000 Mustang into a dedicated drag car.
