The Dominican Learning Center improves the lives of adult learners through education. Check us out at www.domlearningcenter.org

In 1994, the congregation of Dominican Sisters known then as St. Mary of the Springs established the Dominican Learning Center (DLC) to respond to the growing literacy needs in Columbus, Ohio. Today, under the continued sponsorship of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, the Dominican Learning Center provides one-to-one tutoring to help adults to improve their skills in reading, writing, spelling, spea

The Dominican Learning Center celebrated its 2026 Tutor Appreciation Lunch by honoring the incredible impact of its volunteers and learners.

This year, 282 volunteers supported 714 learners representing 60 countries. Together, learners advanced through 103 books, and 17 students achieved major milestones by passing their GED or Citizenship tests.

A joyful celebration of dedication, learning, and community! 💙

We often say that Sisters never truly retire - they simply find new ways to serve.

Sr. Shawn Fitzpatrick, former director of the Dominican Learning Center, is proving that every day. While living at Mohun, she continues tutoring learners and has expanded her ministry through a simple but meaningful act: collecting pop tabs for recycling.

The funds raised support Sr. Rita Marie Schwarzenberger and her work with Hope for the Village Child in Kaduna, Nigeria, helping children in need.

With the help of Mohun staff and Sr. Josetta Mayer, this small effort is making a big impact—because every tab counts.

We are so grateful for our retired Sisters, whose ministries of love and service continue to bless communities near and far.

Spring Break in action! ☕🎨

On Wednesday, students from Albertus Magnus College spent part of their Spring Break serving at our Dominican Learning Center. During their visit, they built a new coffee station for learners and volunteers to enjoy, created a fun game for the center’s learners, and helped with graphics and administrative projects.

Their time and talents helped lighten the load for staff while bringing creativity and energy to the center. We are so grateful for their service!

We are deeply grateful to the The Catholic Foundation for their generous grant in support of the Dominican Learning Center, a founding ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

This funding helps provide English language instruction, basic academic skills, and resources for volunteer teachers, empowering adult learners to grow in confidence, advocate for their families, and participate more fully in their parishes and communities.

Because of this partnership, lives are changing. Learners are reaching personal goals, preparing for citizenship, and celebrating their achievements alongside their parish communities.

Thank you, Catholic Foundation, for investing in education, dignity, and hope. Together, we are building a stronger Church and a more just and peaceful world.

Your generosity helps our sisters continue to follow God’s call—wherever it leads.

For Srs. Ana Gonzalez and June Fitzgerald, that call includes walking with young women as they discern their vocation, like Sr. Annie Killian, who made her Perpetual Vows this year. For Sr. Jane Belanger, it means tending the farm, even in retirement. For Sr. Gemma Doll, it’s daily advocacy for justice. And for 96-year-old Sr. Josetta Mayer, it’s knitting hundreds of hats to keep neighbors warm.

Our sisters are able to do all of this, and so much more, because of supporters like you.
