Creating a better world by enriching the lives of adolescents I am so thrilled to be a part of an organization that is dedicated to being the change we all wish to see in the world! Together, me and my Next Level Trainings leadership team are fundraising for a non-profit. We declared a goal of $64k, and we are determined to meet it! Will you consider donating to support this worthy cause today? Check out my fundraising page for Villedge Inc. - Too many teens in Cincinnati lack information, opportunity, and empowerment to live a full life. With your support of Villedge Inc., you will help create an environment in which teens can thrive instead of surviving. Through connection and relationship, Villedge Inc. supports teens who are in and out of detention centers, courtrooms, foster homes, shelters, and various schools – these hard places have left them feeling frustrated and discouraged. Through a continuum of services – healthy lifestyle, personal growth, education in the community, creative learning, and engaging activities, Villedge Inc. is working diligently to create a better world by radically transforming the lives of adolescents We, the 25th leadership class of Next Level Trainings, are working passionately to support Villedge Inc. in providing transformational services to the most vulnerable kids in our communities. Part of our transformational curriculum is to create a large-scale community service project for an Ohio non-profit organization. Our leadership class is committed to raising $64,000, and improving or creating Villedge Inc. infrastructure, collecting tangible goods, and providing 256 hours of volunteer support. We are excited to support the life-changing work of Villedge Inc. and to create massive results in 24 days! Villedge Inc. supports teens who are in and out of detention centers, courtrooms, foster homes, shelters, and various schools – these hard places have left them feeling frustrated and discouraged. The labels, diagnosis, work plans and programs in these environments have produced no substantial life change. Villedge Inc.'s goal is to take these teens who were once “at-risk,” break the cycles of dysfunction, weave themselves back into the fabric of their communities, and become leaders who empower the younger generation to do the same. We have stabilized multiple foster care placements, supported teens in avoiding residential treatment and detention centers, created new connections to safe adults while helping them become part of their community. As a result, they move from surviving to Thriving! Next Level Trainings provides experiential leadership programs that support people in unlocking their passion, power, and purpose. Our emotional intelligence trainings, developed using positive psychology and behavioral science, are proven to make substantial and lasting impacts on graduates’ personal and professional lives while also improving our local communities.

Over the next several months, a team of specialists will be converting our interior lighting to energy efficient LED panels and bulbs. This exciting update will improve the aesthetic and functional environment for our students and provide cleaner, more efficient lighting. Additionally, we will achieve a 63% reduction in the energy used for lighting. In a relatively short period of time, this project will pay for itself with the energy savings realized and save the school tens of thousands of dollars over the life of the fixtures.

This lighting update fits well with our efforts to work toward classroom and school-wide improvements highlighted in the Be The Light Campus Master Plan. We are very fortunate to have the support of the Zehala family, including St. Francis DeSales alumnus Dave Zehala ’83, President of Plug Smart, on this project.

Check out the new LED panels already installed in the gym and in a portion of our hallway.

The Art Club worked for several weeks on portraits for an organization called The Memory Project. The Memory Project is an organization that delivers portraits to children around the world, to build feelings of international friendship and solidarity. The project is dedicated to promoting intercultural awareness, friendship, and kindness between children around the world through the universal language of art. The Art Club requested over 20 photos of children in refugee camps in Nigeria. Students then created portraits of each of the children, finishing each with a picture of themselves and a note on the back. We recently received a video from the organization showing them delivering the portraits from across the country to children in the camps.

Math teacher Val Sharritts and her Calculus BC class partnered with Construction Tech teacher Kim Gattis on a recent project, creating real objects from the abstract math theory of application of integration. Students studied various ways of calculating volumes and surface areas of 3D objects by choosing a specific problem to solve. They graphed the equation on paper, then on a computer, and finally converted the image created from this formula into a 3D file to be printed on the school's 3D printer. What a project from start to finish!
