Momentum empowers children through dance, music, and performance to develop lifelong habits of self- There is no cost to families to participate in Momentum.

Founded in 2003 by Monica Kridler, Momentum began in a single Columbus elementary school with the goal of expanding access to dance and the arts. Today, we serve more than 1,600 children annually in more than 25 elementary schools and youth-serving organizations. Since Momentum’s founding, over 12,000 children in more than 350 individual classrooms have experienced the joy of dance, music, and performance through our programs. Founded on the belief in the power of the arts to enhance lives, Momentum primarily serves under-resourced neighborhoods in central Ohio where children often have limited access to the arts.

Today, we remember Gloria Steinem as not only one of our Rooted & Rising Courageous Women, but as a renowned feminist leader, activist, and organizer. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, and founded Ms. Magazine, the first magazine written and run by women. She also used her writing to advance gender equality and inspire change, advocating for equal pay and challenging traditional gender roles.

Momentum was honored to include her in our year-end performance last year, and her legacy will live on and continue to inspire our students, community, and the world. Rest in peace, Gloria.

✨ Meet Momentum Monday! ✨

We’re so excited to welcome Gabrielle Whitcomb to the Momentum team as our new Advanced Teams Manager! 💜

A Columbus native and lifelong dancer, Gabrielle has more than 10 years of teaching experience and earned her BFA in Dance from the University of Colorado Boulder. Her favorite styles are tap and hip hop, and her teaching philosophy centers on making every student feel seen, heard, and valued while helping them build confidence.

Outside the studio, you can find Gabrielle walking, painting, doing Pilates, or reading. 📚🎨

Please join us in welcoming Bryan Morton to the Momentum Excellence Board of Directors — our final new board member this cycle!

Bryan brings over a decade of experience in commercial and business banking, currently serving as Vice President, Relationship Manager at JPMorganChase. Throughout his career, he's helped businesses navigate financing, growth strategy, and operational efficiency. He's also an Ohio University graduate with a background in Finance, and he's active in community leadership through his involvement with local boards and committees.

With Bryan joining, our newest class of board members is complete. We're excited to have his financial expertise and community spirit on our team. Welcome, Bryan!

Community Partner Spotlight 💙🌱

At this year's Momentum Summer Intensive (MoSI), our dancers had the opportunity to partner with Seeds of Caring for their Smiles for Seniors service project.

Together, they learned about the importance of empathy, the impact of senior loneliness, and how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Our dancers wrote heartfelt letters, created colorful crafts, and shared conservation facts with residents at National Church Residences—spreading joy while connecting this year's conservation theme beyond the dance studio.

Thank you to Seeds of Caring for helping our dancers discover that creating change isn't just about protecting our planet—it's also about caring for the people in our communities. 💚

Molly brings over two decades of experience in education leadership, having started her career as a classroom teacher before moving into roles supporting school improvement, teacher coaching, and postsecondary access across multiple states. Most recently, she's led large-scale academic transformation initiatives with school districts and state agencies, and previously helped hundreds of students on their path to college success.

We're grateful for Molly's expertise and passion, and we're excited for the perspective of a Momentum parent that she'll bring to our mission. Welcome, Molly!

We are excited to welcome our second new board member this month, Thomas Savage!

Thomas is a licensed K–12 educator and community-centered systems leader whose career has been dedicated to supporting young people through education, belonging, and youth development. Since 2011, he has served across public, charter, and independent schools, as well as youth-serving nonprofit organizations, always focused on helping students reach their full potential.

Today, Thomas serves as Director of Education Engagement at the ADAMH Board of Franklin County, where he works alongside all 16 Franklin County school districts to strengthen partnerships that support student wellbeing. He also serves as Vice-Chair of Columbus' inaugural LGBTQ+ Affairs Commission, advocating for marginalized youth throughout our community.

Thomas believes the arts are essential to helping children discover who they are, build resilience, and develop confidence—a vision that strongly aligns with our mission. We are thrilled to welcome his experience, leadership, and passion to our board and look forward to the impact we'll make together.
