Born in Columbus, Ohio, Stanson began painting in 1994 af The First Ford Showplace warehouse in Olde Towne East, where she worked alongside artist Levent Isik (1961-2019)and was influenced by the legacy of self-taught masters such as William Hawkins, Elijah Pierce, and Smoky Brown. Who are all in the Smithsonian Museum of Art. Stanson also had the opportunity to paint with Smoky Brown(1919-2005).

Working primarily in acrylic (she started with house paint),Stanson often incorporates collage and found objects into her compositions. Her paintings are inspired by personal memories, relationships, travel, music, family, and everyday life. Characterized by bold lines, vivid color, and a joyful sense of nostalgia, her work celebrates community, cultural traditions, and positive human experiences. Stanson’s distinctive visual language reflects a deeply personal vision while continuing the rich tradition of American self-taught and outsider art.

Her artwork has been exhibited and collected throughout the United States, earning recognition for its energetic storytelling, Bright Vivid Colors and uplifting spirit.
