Congrats to Assistant Professor Kym McDaniel for receiving several awards for her films! The awards include a Juror Honorable Mention at the Milwaukee Underground Film Festival, Best of Theme at the West Virginia Short Film Festival, and an award for her presentation on feminist childhood media at the Popular Culture Conference. McDaniel has three films currently on the film festival circuit, with spring screenings at Images Festival Toronto, the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Big Muddy Film Festival, Athens International Film + Video Festival, and Adriatikino, among others.

More than 100 undergraduate students have worked as interns at Urban Arts Space and “externs” with area arts organizations since 2023 through a community engagement initiative supported by a $2M Mellon Foundation grant. In addition to supporting the local arts community, program participants gain valuable exposure to the professional art world, said Terron Banner, director of Urban Arts Space.
