After the Ohio State Fair's conclusion last week, we thank everyone who stopped by our Ohio Department of Higher Education booth to learn about our educational resources, took our prize wheel for a spin, created arts and crafts, and engaged with our virtual reality campus experience, the Universe of Opportunity. Ohio’s technology community reflects on the passing of Russell M. Pitzer this week, a pioneer whose contributions helped establish the foundations of advanced computing and networking in Ohio.

As a co-founder of the Ohio Supercomputer Center and an early force behind OARnet, Russ played an important role in shaping capabilities that continue to support research, education, and innovation statewide.

Today, those systems remain central to Ohio’s technology infrastructure through the Ohio Technology Consortium. As they continue to serve the state, Russ’s impact will continue to be felt for years to come. We extend our condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping higher education — and Ohio’s collaborative technology ecosystem is helping institutions respond.

At OHECC 2026, executive directors Pankaj Shah of OARnet, Amy Pawlowski of OhioLINK, and Dave Hudak of the Ohio Supercomputer Center came together for a session exploring how AI is driving new demands across networking, advanced computing, library systems, data access, and security.

Ohio’s AI Advantage: Statewide Capabilities, Campuswide Impact highlighted how Ohio’s shared technology infrastructure and statewide partnerships are helping campuses adapt to rapidly evolving needs in teaching, learning, and research.

Attendees gained insight into what’s changing, what’s ahead, and how institutions can leverage these capabilities locally to support their communities.

🎉 Still thinking about our incredible day at COSI’s Big Science Celebration this past weekend!

It was great to see so many students and families engaging with hands-on STEM activities — building a supercomputer node, exploring Ohio’s higher education opportunities through our Universe of Opportunity experience, and creating their own future with a personalized backpack tag.

Events like this are a powerful reminder of the curiosity and creativity driving the next generation of innovators. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our tent!
