As construction concludes on 33rd Avenue, lane restrictions are in place as the east lane, driveways, and sidewalk work are being completed. Currently, the road is only two lanes, and there are no markings for left turns or distinction of driving lanes.

Out of an abundance of caution, we encourage you to find an alternate route other than 33rd Ave. We also encourage you to plan for extra time during drop-off and school dismissal time at Columbus High School.

August 12th: Orientations Grades 10-12
Seniors: 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Juniors: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Sophomores: 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
(Students only attend during their assigned orientation time.)

August 13th: 9th Grade Only from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

August 14th: Full Day Grades 9-12 from 8:10 a.m. - 3:40 p.m.
Breakfast and Lunch will be served.

33rd Ave to Reopen on August 10th! Check out the post and story from the City of Columbus, Nebraska Government.

Just in time for a new school year to begin next week, one of north Columbus’ busiest travel corridors is preparing to reopen.

After spending most of the summer closed for a full reconstruction, 33rd Avenue between 30th and 38th streets will reopen Monday, Aug. 10, to two lanes of traffic. It will restore a key route for students, parents and commuters as crews complete the final stages of one of the City’s largest infrastructure projects of the season.

CPS and CHS DO NOT know this person and they do not have authorization to solicit ads and funds on behalf of Columbus Public Schools. Columbus High School Director of Athletics and Activities Tim Kwapnioski has announced the hiring of Jorge Marino as the next head coach of the Columbus Discoverers boys soccer program. Marino assumes the role following the resignation of Jhonny Beltran, who announced his departure in May to accept an assistant coaching position at Central Community College.

Tim Kwapnioski stated that "Columbus High School is proud to announce the addition of Jorge Marino as our next boys soccer head coach. Jorge has a strong background in the sport, with coaching experience at both the club and high school levels. He spent this past year as the assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach at Columbus High." Furthermore Kwapnioski said that "Jorge builds positive relationships with student-athletes while emphasizing both athletic development and the character traits to prepare them for success beyond high school sports. He will continue to stress the importance of teamwork, a commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the field, and building on the foundation of competing with intensity."

Marino takes over a Discoverers program with firsthand knowledge of its players and culture after serving on the coaching staff during the 2025 season. His familiarity with the program is expected to provide continuity while continuing to develop the team's competitive identity.

Please welcome Mr. Mark Wemhoff to Columbus High School! Mr. Wemhoff will be joining us in the fall in the science department.

"I bring 26 years of teaching experience and 30 years of coaching experience to CHS. I am excited to bring a tough but fair and fun attitude to the classroom. I am versed in many areas of science and Industrial Tech along with artistic and musical talent.

Discoverers give a big welcome to Ms. Christina Woodside! Ms. Woodside will join the staff at CHS this fall as our school interventionist.

"I am excited to join the district as the High School Interventionist and become part of the school community dedicated to student growth and success.
