Cancer rates are rising among younger patients — but what can we do to address this trend?

The new BRIDGE Program at the OSUCCC-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute is co-lead by Sara Myers, MD, and John Alexander, MD, and aims to expand comprehensive care for today’s early-onset cancer patients while funding research that could reduce diagnoses in the future.

When Allison Dick was diagnosed with breast cancer and told she’d have to undergo a mastectomy, she wasn’t sure if she’d ever be able to play the violin again.

At the time, she was concertmaster of the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra and worried that limited mobility would affect her ability to continue doing what she loves — but her team at the Spielman Center worked hard to provide her with the best care possible, from her mastectomy to reconstruction and physical therapy.

“I truly appreciated the kindness and competency of everyone at the Spielman Center. They’ve made a bad situation as good as it can be.”

Once she was able to play the violin again with no restrictions, Allison wanted to express her gratitude to the Spielman Center and everyone who helped her throughout her breast cancer journey — and she figured the best way to show her appreciation was to share a video of her playing the violin.

In 1998, Stefanie Spielman was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 30 years old. She and her husband, Chris, realized they could use their platform to raise awareness for breast cancer care, research and treatment.

They decided to establish the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at OSUCCC-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute with an initial goal of raising $250,000. Within the first six months, donations to the Fund reached $1 million — and today, more than $26 million has been raised to support breast cancer patients and research.

This , we are so grateful for Stefanie and Chris, as well as every donor and supporter of the Spielman Fund. Thank you. 🩷
