Shaker Heights is currently at risk of their Latin program being ending. They are are of the biggest schools that attend convention and they bring a lot of spirit. Please sign the petition to save Latin. Below is a message from them.

We, the students of the High School Latin Program, specifically the Latin Club, are concerned with the treatment of Latin as a class and as a program. We are aware of the plan to eliminate the offering of Latin to 6th graders, and this is quite alarming to us. We value this language and the culture it creates as an essential part of our educational experience. Everyone has their own way of enjoying school and for many people, this is it. We have spent years cultivating an environment where Latin is a language for everyone to enjoy, no matter their knowledge of classics. Latin, given that 6th graders are unable to choose it, will falter and countless young minds won't be able to learn the many skills it can teach, and the community to be found in its study. These 6th graders are unable to experience the first, and arguably most important year of Latin. If this trend of slowly ridding Shaker Heights of Latin continues (it’s looking like it will), we won't have a club to enjoy or a language to learn.

We are asking the Shaker Heights School District to:
Restore Latin as an option for 6th graders and commit to preserving and supporting the Latin program at all levels
Help us protect this vital part of our education. Please sign and share this petition to show your support for Latin in Shaker Heights!!

It is time to register for the 74th annual Ohio Junior Classical League convention, which will be held at the Crowne Plaza Columbus-North Worthington Hotel from March 7th to 9th, 2025!

The convention fee for OSCL members staying at the hotel is 50$ (Commuters do not pay this fee aka it is free for commuters to attend convention).

Registration should be completed by February 2nd, 2025.

Ohio's Latin Convention is back to fully in-person this year and we need your help to make sure everything runs according to plan! Convention will be held at the Crown Plaza Columbus-North Worthington Hotel from March 10th-12th, 2023. The fee for SCL attendees who are staying in the hotel is $100. To make sure we have enough hotel rooms for everyone, the registration deadline is FEBRUARY 7, 2023.

Please fill out the registration form below to join us at convention! Also, if you know of any former OJCLers who are not OSCLers but are interested in helping with convention this year, encourage them to consider joining the OSCL and coming to convention!

2023 OSCL Convention Registration is live! OJCL State Convention will be March 10-12 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Columbus North IN PERSON!
