📸✨ Creating More Than Images...Creating Connections! ✨📸

Our Ohio State Radiography students recently had the opportunity to design and create their own anatomic side markers, and the results were incredible!

Anatomic side markers are an essential part of medical imaging. These markers identify the patient's right or left side on a radiographic image and serve as a permanent part of the medical record, helping ensure accuracy, quality, and patient safety.

While side markers play a critical role in clinical practice, this activity allowed our students to add a personal touch by designing markers that reflect their creativity and professional identity as future radiologic technologists. From unique designs and colors to personalized styles, each marker represents the individuality of its creator while reinforcing an important professional responsibility.

Beyond the educational value, the project provided a wonderful opportunity for students to collaborate, share ideas, and build connections with their classmates. Activities like these help strengthen our learning community, encourage creativity, and remind us that professional growth can be both meaningful and fun.

We are proud of our students for embracing innovation, demonstrating professionalism, and creating markers they will carry with them throughout their careers!

The future of radiography education is taking shape—literally!

Students in The Ohio State University Radiography Program are using 3D printing technology to create detailed anatomical models that support learning of the skeletal structures within the chest and abdomen. By transforming digital imaging data into tangible models, students can explore complex anatomy from a new perspective, enhancing spatial understanding, and strengthening the connection between classroom concepts and clinical practice.

These hands-on learning tools provide an innovative way to study anatomy, foster collaboration, and demonstrate how emerging technologies are shaping the future of medical imaging education.

We are proud of our students for embracing creativity, technology, and evidence-based learning to advance their understanding of patient anatomy and radiographic practice.

What do human and veterinary radiation therapy have in common? More than you might think! 🐾

This summer, senior Radiation Therapy students had the opportunity to visit The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center to observe pet radiation treatments.

Students gained a unique perspective on how many of the same principles, technologies, and patient care practices used in human radiation oncology are also applied in veterinary medicine.

Special thanks to Dr. Fu, Dr. Hendrickson, and their team for welcoming us into their clinic and sharing insights into their innovative techniques and processes.

Congratulations to Ilyas Nur, who represented The Ohio State University’s Radiologic Sciences and Therapy Division and Imaging Students Across Ohio at our annual national society meeting (American Society of Radiologic Technologists) and House of Governance meeting this past week in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 🎉

Below is an excerpt from Ilyas’ reflection :

“Through the ASRT Student to Leadership Development Program, I had the opportunity to attend as one of three student representatives
from Ohio, representing the Ohio Society of Radiologic Technologists and The Ohio State University’s Division of Radiologic Sciences and Therapy. Being around students and
professionals from across the country who are all committed to medical imaging and radiation therapy made it clear how connected and motivated this profession really is.

The House of Delegates meeting on Sunday, June 28th was one of the most eye-opening parts of the conference. Watching delegates from all 50 states debate and vote on proposed bylaws and credentialing changes, including those involving the new I.A (MR) credential, showed me how much of this profession is shaped by volunteer leadership and real advocacy work. Seeing that process in person gave me a much clearer understanding of how decisions are actually made within the ASRT.

I’m leaving Albuquerque with a stronger sense of direction, greater respect for the advocacy side of this profession, and a renewed motivation to stay involved and keep growing in medical imaging and radiation therapy."

Senior Radiation Therapy students recently visited the James Outpatient Care Center for a hands-on learning experience focused on CT contrast administration and simulation techniques.

Students had the opportunity to learn how to make alpha cradles and also practiced their Bite-Lok and thermoplastic mask-making skills.

Their mask making skills have grown by leaps and bounds since when we practiced at the very beginning of Autumn Semster.

We are extremely grateful for all of our clinical preceptors to go above and beyond to help make sure our students are getting the best experiences and education possible.

The Sonography program was honored to welcome Dr. Mona Prasad and Rita Gottesman to speak with the junior sonography students, at the conclusion of the Spring Semester!

Dr. Mona Prasad and Rita Gottesman shared their knowledge and experiences within the Maternal Fetal Medicine department, discussing a variety of real-world clinical scenarios that sonographers may encounter in practice. Their insight into patient care, critical thinking, and teamwork provided our students with an invaluable learning experience as they continue developing their skills and preparing for their future careers.

Thank you both for taking the time to invest in our students and for helping bridge the gap between the classroom and clinical practice. We truly appreciate your support and dedication to sonography education!
