Cicada parasite beetles, Sandalus niger.
21 Sept. 2016.
Ohio State University Agricultural Campus, Columbus, Ohio.
First pic is a female ovipositing in the bark fissures of a crabapple tree. Second pic is of a male on the hunt for females. They also swarmed to my hand as I had just picked up a female and had pheromone on my hand. Notice the sexual difference in the antennal structure and the elytral color.
