MUW Child and Parent Development Center Quality preschool working collaboratively with parents and our University to ensure every preschooler learns and grows in a nurturing environment.

Our primary goals include teaching children to:
• Grow in understanding and appreciation of their friends
• Learn to listen and follow directions
• Enjoy creative expression through music, art, and other activities
• Have positive multicultural experiences and learn to embrace diverse backgrounds
• Develop gross motor skills along with body and space awareness
• Think and make choices for individ

ual and small group activities
• Feel confident, secure, and loved in the school setting
• Establish healthy eating and hand washing habits
• Develop a lifelong love for learning and exploration

The staff members of the CPDC share a common philosophy that children learn best when they can actively interact with their environment. We share a common commitment to helping each child develop fully – physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Each child is valued as a unique individual. Children can explore the materials, solve problems, develop skills, increase knowledge, or be creative in ways that help them to solidify their abilities at one level to be ready to move on to the next. The teachers engage with the children in ways that develop strong language skills. All activities are developmentally appropriate and allow children to engage in activities at their own levels. Every child is able to develop fully according to his/her own interests and capabilities. CPDC (Child and Parent Development Center) is a part of the School of Education on the Campus of Mississippi University for Women.

It’s almost time for CPDC Registration for Fall 2023!

The Child and Parent Development Center is The W’s campus laboratory school for campus and the Columbus community. We provide preschool and early education experiences for children who are one-five years of age by September 1st of the enrollment year.

The CPDC is a working laboratory for university students in multiple disciplines to make real life connections with what they learn in their academic coursework. The W has housed an early learning center and lab school since 1929.
The CPDC is a non-profit program and accepts Mississippi Childcare Certificates. The CPDC is part of the School of Education and is licensed by the Mississippi Department of Health.

W ALERT: Due to the threat of severe weather tonight, all activities (including face-to-face classes) after 2:30 p.m. are canceled. All campus offices will be closed. Students should check Canvas to learn about course expectations. The final examinations scheduled for the Tuesday, 3-6 p.m. time period will now be held Friday afternoon from 12:30-3:30 p.m. The final examinations scheduled for Tuesday night classes will now be held Friday afternoon from 3:30-6:30 p.m.

We plan to resume normal operations tomorrow, Wednesday November 30.

The campus community is encouraged to monitor W ALERT, university email and the website, and stay tuned to local media outlets for updates.

CPDC has many reasons to be thankful and grateful this thanksgiving.

We are thankful and humbled by the love and perseverance of our teachers as they strive each and every day to give it their all for our kids.

We’re thankful for our MUW students and university family who come to learn and grow and show up to support us in our classrooms.

We are thankful for our families and children who add the energy, love, and life into our days.

As we think about our weekend of thanksgiving, we also remember the word gratitude. Gratitude is the virtue of thankfulness. It is being able to easily show thankfulness, and to return kindness for things you have or things someone has done for you. How will you show gratitude this Thanksgiving season?

REPOST: Yearly PSA ☺️❄️ if you see a child going from a warm car into a warm building without a coat, it is fine. The mother is probably educated in car seat safety and knows that their child should not wear a winter coat in a car seat. She probably also knows that it would quite literally take more time to get the child out of the car seat, and fight to get them into a winter coat then it would to just run into the warm building. She probably also has a blanket for her child to help keep nice and cozy in the car, maybe even wraps them in it to get into their destination. 🥶 🧥 🤫

She probably also understands how illnesses work and knows that cold air does not make you sick. 🦠
