The Office of International Affairs hosts Scholar Conversation Hour every Wednesday at noon in 160 Enarson Classroom Building. It’s an informal and fun way for Ohio State’s international visiting scholars to practice their English conversation skills. Scholars can bring their lunch and connect with fellow members of the international Buckeye community for an interactive language learning experience. Scholars will engage in a variety of activities throughout the hour-long session that will help improve their English skills and hold conversations with confidence. There’s no need to register, and family and friends are welcome to join.

Gen Z embraces "bilingual breaks" for immersive travel
A trend called "bilingual breaks" is gaining favor among Generation Z, with travelers taking short trips to rural European towns to practice languages they have been studying. Research from Airbnb and Duolingo shows that Gen Z travelers are more interested in engaging with local cultures than visiting tourist hotspots, and the partnership between the two companies offers a discount to encourage this type of travel.

The International Society of Muslim Women in Science (ISMWS), founded by Ohio State’s Professor Sultana N. Nahar, has launched a new chapter at the University of Barishal in Bangladesh. The chapter’s inaugural “Stay in Science” program brought together students, faculty, and university leadership to celebrate and support women pursuing STEM fields.
The Barishal chapter adds to a growing network of ISMWS chapters across the United States, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Palestine, and Saudi Arabia, and now Bangladesh. ISMWS currently counts more than 500 members in 34 countries, linking students, faculty, and professionals and creating pipelines for mentorship, research collaboration, and graduate study. It held, along with Indo-US STEM Education and Research Center of OSU and Aligarh Muslim University, an international symposium , participated by 10 countries, to observe the International Women's Day 2026 in March and published the 4th volume of the e-magazine An-Nisa for women in STEM.

Global Citizen Summer Camp - Registration Window Extended!
There is still time to register your middle schooler for the CLLC's Global Citizen Summer Camp! The window to register is now open through Friday, May 29th.
The Global Citizen Summer Camp is a non-residential camp for middle school students (rising 6th through 8th graders). Through a variety of interactive and age appropriate activities, students are taught to step outside their comfort zone and gain a deeper understanding of what it means to belong to and navigate within multiple and diverse communities. Students will learn basics of world languages through an immersive experience and participate in activities that focus on developing intercultural competence and global citizenship.

NextGen Service Fellowship Application Now Open
The NextGen Service Fellowship provides funding for U.S. college students at partner universities to gain hands-on experience in international development while addressing the needs of communities overseas. This Fellowship aims to inspire and equip the next generation of American public service leaders through immersive, hands-on experience working in and with communities around the world, including Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The deadline to complete the application is May 18, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time.

New Bachelor of Arts - American Sign Language: Applied Communication and Community Studies
As of Spring 2026, the ASL Program offers a major in American Sign Language (ASL): Applied Communication and Community Studies.
Students in the ASL: Applied Communication and Community Studies major engage in the formal study of American Sign and the diverse communities of Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Hard of Hearing, CODA (children of deaf adults) and ASL users. Students will develop intermediate level ASL proficiency and develop the knowledge and competencies for professionals to work with and within Deaf communities.
