Attending the meeting in Portugal were: Associate Prof Daniela Miteva; Prof Sathya Gopalakrishnan, PhD student Roberto; Junyi Hua, 2023 PhD now Assistant Prof at Macau University; David Wolf, 2018 PhD now Associate Prof at Kobe University; and Yun Qiu, 2016 PhD now Associate Prof at Jinan University.

Most rural households on private wells believe their water is safe. Few have tested it recently. ๐Ÿ’ง

A new $590,000 USDA NIFA grant will support three years of work studying how households with private wells make decisions about water quality, testing, and treatment. It is one of only four projects funded nationally under NIFA's Environmental and Natural Resource Economics initiative.

AEDE's Gabriel Lade, C. William Swank Chair in Rural-Urban Policy, will co-lead the project along with Jacqueline Comito (Iowa Learning Farms), alongside David Keiser (Yale School of the Environment) and Catherine DeLong (ISU Extension and Outreach). It builds on their 2022 Iowa Rural Drinking Water Survey, which found roughly three-quarters of surveyed households were at risk of exposure to potentially unsafe water.
