The department of Modern and Classical Languages at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia offers classes for the following languages: Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Latin, Japanese. We also offer minors and majors in Spanish and French. A second language will help in any field of study and will also help to be competitive on a global scale. The jobs of tomorrow need individuals who can work in a culturally diverse environment and have strong skills in a foreign language.

We recently observed French Language Day (March 20), celebrating the global reach and cultural impact of the French language. At , students can begin exploring French and its worldwide relevance by enrolling in French I and French II, building skills in language, culture, and communication.

Tonight, we proudly welcomed 5 outstanding students into Sigma Delta Pi (national) the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, through our chapter.

Sigma Delta Pi recognizes excellence in the study of Spanish language, Hispanic literature, and the diverse cultures of the Spanish speaking world. The society promotes scholarship, leadership, and service while fostering a deep appreciation for cultural understanding and global engagement.

We celebrate not only academic achievement, but also the dedication, perseverance, and passion these inductees bring to our community.

Litza Vazquez Hendrix, a senior BA in Modern Language and Culture- Spanish with Teacher Certification track in the Department of Society, Culture, and Languages, was awarded the Professional Association of Georgia Educators’ (PAGE) Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) award on Thursday, January 29, 2026 (https://www.pageinc.org/star). The STAR award is given to Georgia’s highest-achieving high school seniors and the teacher who was most instrumental in their academic development. Mrs. Vazquez Hendrix holds a provisional certification and currently teaches Spanish at Long County High School. She is in her last semester of classes and will complete her Internship and graduation in Fall 2026. We are proud of Mrs. Hendrix and the outstanding work and contributions that she is already making toward student success in her Georgia school district.
